White spots on tongue

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: White spots on tongue
By Monicamomof3 on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 - 10:45 pm:

Several weeks ago my oldest dd got a white spot on her tongue. She complained a little then it was gone. About 1 week ago, I noticed my youngest dd (15months) with white spots on her tongue. She was very fussy and didn't eat well. I thought it was a canker sore but when I looked closely, I thought it may not be. NOW...my ds (3) just woke up crying about his tongue. He has little white sores on the right and left edges of his tongue. He had a hard time eating tonight as well. No fever except my youngest dd ran fever but that was prob. unrelated, since the fever came after her tongue sores disappeared. But now she has a little sore on the side crack of her mouth that is white and red in the middle.

Any experience with these "tongue sores" or little sores on the edge of your little ones mouth?

Any ideas?

Thanks so much,
Monica

Monica,

Go to the Parenting section of this board and see the post entitled "Blisters in Mouth", you might find some answers there. Good luck.

It sounds like a classic case of thrush. Call your pediatrician. They should prescribe a dose of antibiotics and an ointment for the youngest, in case of a yeast diaper rash.

I had little white spots on the back of my tongue, and throat and especially my left tonsil about a month ago when I had the flu. I thought I had strep but the dr checked and it was neg. The dr called it some sort of virus. I felt too bad to log what the whole name was. But it went away with my flu.
