Pregnancy Questions
This is my second pregnancy and I'm about 23 weeks along. I noticed in the shower today that on the end of my nipple I have a white "bump" for lack of a better word. It's not really a bump but just an area that is super white. It doesn't hurt, it just sticks out a little more than the rest of the nipple. Any ideas? My next ob appointment is May 4. I don't want to run to the doctor for every little thing. Last pregnancy I did a online search as I had blood in my bra around 4 months and was so freaked out - I thought I had cancer so I rushed to the doctor and he said it was nothing and not to worry about it. Second question: I am itchy everywhere and all the time! Has this happened to anyone else? I was itchy last time as well, it's driving me crazy! I'm more itchy in areas where I have hair. Doctor gave me a cream, but it only works while it's on, if I stop using it I'm itchy again. I sratch so much (without even noticing) that I rub my skin red and raw. I think a lot of it has to do with dry skin. I had eczema this winter near my eyes and on my hands which is really unusual for me. Anyway, any thoughts/suggestions?
The white bumps are montgomery glands (or something very close to that, I think that's the name) Apparently, they help lubricate/protect your nipples during breastfeeding. My nipples are always bumpy like that, but it was more noticable during my pregnancy. It's normal. The itching? Dry skin, stretched skin, just try to moisturize a lot, keep hand lotion nearby all all times.
Drink lots of water to hydrate your skin. Maybe that will help with the itching.
Thanks you two .
Had the same nipple thing...made me feel like an alien!! They disappeared though after I stopped breastfeeding. They were REALLY tender while breastfeeding (pumping). As far as the skin...our doctor always recommends Cetaphil. There's also a lotion at Bath and Body works I believe that helps eczema. It's designed by C.O. Bigelow and I believe it's from Europe but it's affordable.
I think I had the nipple thing with my first but not this time . I have read that your skin will really dry out in pregnancy and to stop using alot of soap, shower gels etc.,even if they say they are moisturizing. I am a very frequent hand washer(ok, compulsive) and I stopped using the anti-bac because I was getting all raw and red. In the shower I just rinse very well or use a little of Freedom's lavender baby wash.
