Stoner's Day-parents need to be aware of this
I'm the mom of a teenager, and I've become aware of the term "4:20" as a euphamism for a time to get high. Today, April 20, is "officially" Stoner's Day. I heard a good commentary on NPR this morning about it, and decided to talk to my dd about what she knew. She's so far out of touch with the drug culture (thank goodness) that she didn't know what it was, but had heard a kid on the bus refer to it. I told her what it meant, so that she wouldn't be naive, in case some of her friends might use it. Here's an article that sheds some light on the subject: http://www.snopes.com/language/stories/420.htm I think it's important for parents to try to stay on top of things our teens are exposed to, which is why I'm sharing this.
Never knew the term 4:20, thanks for the info. My DS who is 19 was never into drugs, thank god. At least I know what that term means. All parents have to stay on top of everything these day. Its scary. After my DSS died from an overdose, I was so overwhelmed by all the things that teens are exposed to, it scares me to death.
Yes, 4:20 is a very big celebration for pot heads and has been for years. It's also the anniversary of the Columbine shooting (I think that had a significance, just a personal opinion). If you talk to your kids about drugs, this day is really no different than any other day during the year.
Well, Sarah is already on her way to Florida. Anyone who gets caught with drugs on the trip, will be sent home, at the parent's expense, so I doubt it will be happening with them.
I didn't realize that today is Dd 10th birthday. it is also hitlers bday and she was born a day after the bombing here in Oklahoma I can remember watching it on t.v while in the hospital. what a day
I messed up my wording from before I didn't know today was a stone's day I learn something new everyday here lately and Yes I do know that today is my dd birthday now that sounds better
I've heard of 4:20 as a pothead thing before, but usually just as a joke or symbol. I don't know too many non-pot smokers who just decided "Hey, it's April 20th, I think I'll smoke some weed!". If they are smoking today, it's because they are smoking regularly, so it's something we should be aware of year round.
