Drinking Water

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: Drinking Water
By Clarabel on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - 11:56 pm:

I am curious to know what other families are using for drinking water.
We are currently buying bottled water and putting all the huge empty jugs on the curb for recycling.
We used to get water delivery in California and the jugs were clear plastic, these are not. Some people say that makes a difference.
I used to buy the Brita filters, for the pitcher and the tap but they are expensive to refill and I never know if they are filtering bacteria and all the flouride etc.
What about the reverse osmosis filter system under the sink?
I haven't tried that .
If anyone is using tap water , I'd like to hear about that too.
Thanks

We have a filter in our fridge, we mostly drink that. In our last house we had one of those culligan ones under the sink. I loved that. It really did taste so much better than the tap. Here I think I only like it because it is cold. Honestly it is all about taste. The stuff that is in it, just doesn't bother me. I think as long as you live in a newer house (less rust issues), don't live near a landfill or big pollution place (heck though I live in houston..lol). Then things are fine.

Our water here is gross, and the lines seem to break once a week (I've had insane problems with our water company) so we drink bottled. I buy the 20oz bottles by the case.

We drink Poland springs water. I would never drink tap water.

We're on filtered well water and have no problems drinking water from the tap. We get it tested every couple years. We do buy bottled water to have for outings, etc..

We buy bottled water, and we have a filter on the fridge for the ice and water, however, I prefer the bottled water. I feel like we are drinking chemicals, we live a block from the Mississippi River, and are surrounded by refineries and grain elevators and chemical plants so I am not convinced our water is safe for drinking.

Our dentist recommended drinking tap water as it has floride in it and bottled water does not. We have a filter in our fridge. FYI filters do not filter out bacteria, but your city water system should be taking care of that.

Tap water, no filters or any other contraptions. :)

Bottled water that sits on the cooler. DH got that for me as a special gift because I drink so much water.

We live on a well in the country and our water is terrible. We buy Nestle bottled from Walmart because it's the cheapest that tastes good. We buy TONS of it because water is about the only thing we drink. A filtration system for our home was going to be $900 when we moved in, so we decided to go for the bottled.

We have a Brita water pitcher. I can't drink water out of the tap anymore, and I can't buy bottled cause my fridge is to small. There isn't any room for bottles, and if they aren't cold, I won't bother with them!

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 07:14 pm:

We drink bottled. We only use our tap water for showering and cooking if we are boiling it. We get to many letters from the water company about problems they are trying to fix and contamination issues. Camp Pendleton has one of the worst water sources in Ca. The city of Oceanside and surrounding cities get their water from a different source so they are a bit more safe. I actually will go thirsty waiting for DH to bring me a drink before drinking tap water.

We have a Brita on the tap and a filter in the fridge. I do buy bottled water for outings and try to refill them at home from the tap.

Our tap tastes too chlorinated and we no longer need to worry about fluoride in the water.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 07:33 pm:

Tap water here.

I guess I feel that if one thing doesn't kill us another thing will. It's city water. I grew up with well water and it used to turn my hair red! Everyone always said, "Wow, you colored your hair!" >:-| So if I lived in the country, I would use different water or filter the drinking water.

We buy bottled water by the [huge] case, I leave it out room temperature and the whole family loves it that way. I drink at least 80 oz. a day. But if we run out of bottled water I don't even think to drink the tap, I just drink something else...go figure.

By Hlgmom on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 10:04 pm:

Bottled- I buy the big one that has the pour spout and sits in the fridge!

By Missbookworm on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 10:09 pm:

Tap water here too :)

Tap water here but we have great water! I keep a Brita pitcher in the fridge so there is always cold water and just refill 20 oz bottles for during the day. I don't hesitate to drink from the tap, I just like my water really cold.

I buy the water cooler size bottle of reversed osmosis, and just fill a pitcher for the fridge. Our tap water is fine, but I prefer the taste of the RO water. I drink tons of water, and the kids do, too.

By Kernkate on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 08:20 am:

Tap water.

By Melanie on Friday, April 15, 2005 - 03:36 pm:

We have a well and drink the tap water.

By Missmudd on Friday, April 15, 2005 - 03:39 pm:

Tap water but we have excellent water here. If I lived in the big city I would be drinking bottled too.

By Mrse on Friday, April 15, 2005 - 04:09 pm:

Tap water. I do buy bottled water for work, I clean buildings and I get so thirsty when I am running around, but I would like to buy the big blue jugs for the house, indiviual bottles I think the kids would go nuts on it.

By Amecmom on Friday, April 15, 2005 - 07:34 pm:

We have a Culligan reverse osmosis filtration system for our well water. We have a tap at the sink and it runs to the ice maker/cold water spout on the fridge.
It was here when we bought the house, but I had it serviced the other day ... yipes! We needed new filters, a new membrane, a new faucet ... etc. Over $400 later, my water tastes great :)
The best thing about it is that I don't have to lug bottles anymore.

i used to drink tap water here in London (would never dream of doing that in Mexico!). However, i have noticed that it doesn't take the thirst away. After i started drinking bottled water i noticed i go to the toilet more often and that i don't fell thirsty after drinking it.

When we go to Italy we always drink mineral bottled water. But it is soo good there, it's naturally fizzy and a tiny tiny bit salty and it's good for your health.

I feel a bit of a snob drinking bottled water but i do feel the difference and while I am at it i drink Evian (which doesn't cost more than any Scottish or English water here) because when we go to Mexico for good i will not be able to drink it anymore (It costs five times more than Mexican water!):)

We live in the country, and have a deep artesian well. Our water is very good tasting, and very cold. It is right out of the ground, no chemicals or filtering of any kind. The only drawback is that it IS full of iron. The inside of the tank on our commode gets very rusty.
