My parents are retiring next May. My brother and I have decided to take them on a family trip to celebrate. My parents have always wanted to go to Hilton Head, so we have pretty much decided to go here. It would be next June after the dks got out of school. It will be my parents, dh and I and my two boys(who will be 8 and 6) at the time, and my brother and his girlfriend.

Has anyone been here? Have suggestions on where to stay and things to do?

I have never been there but I always try to check the site www.vrbo.com for condos. I have used this site for Florida many times. I find that for us a condo better meets our needs than a hotel. More room, etc.

That is such a wonderful thing you are doing for your parents. And what wonderful memories for your kids.

I have been checking online and there are lots of vacation homes. There seems to be several beaches, is one better then others?? I would love to get a vacation home with a pool. They don't seem to be any more expensive then a hotel.

It looks like a great place. I am really getting excited. Too bad, it is over a year away.

I love Hilton Head. My grandparents used to always take us. We always stayed at the Mariner's Inn right on the beach.

Hilton Oceanfront Resort It looks like it has not changed much, but was just revamped. Anywhere in Palmetto Dunes is very nice.

i have never been to hilton head but last year my family rented a 8 bedroom house, the house was 2 blocks from the beach in duck, s.c.. we had such a good time we are doing it again this year but we are going to nags head. we are gonna rent a 5 br home , we went to the beach alot. we also went dolphin watching which was awesome, you'll have to try to go out.hope you all enjoy.

I have been to Hilton Head and the place we stayed was on a golf course. That would be great if I was a golfer, but, it was a company fun week paid for by the co. I worked for. I don't think any of us golfed. We went to the beach, but I was disappointed because I am used to the sugary white sands of Florida and the beach there looks like dirt. We also went on a dinner cruise which took us on a tour of million+ dollar homes and we even saw one on an island that had to get to their home by boat or helicopter.

Honestly, I didn't find it to be the best vacation spot I had ever been to. Sorry to sound so negative
