Kids want iPODS, so we made them work!
DH figured he would pay the kids, by the pine cone to go towards the cost of an ipod. So, 39 pounds of pine cones = 624 ounces 6 pine cones to an ounce, so 3744 pine cones! 2 50-pound bags FULL and a partial one! So, even at .05/pine cone, it's $187! I believe the first one will be getting one soon! They did need to be picked up, though. Will need to mow the lawn pretty soon! We figured if they have to work for the IPODS, then they will appreciate them more! (Okay, mom wants one, too, but I can wait!)
Dawn, Can you answer a few questions about ipods for me? I am so far behind in the tech field!! Do you have to pay for each song that you have on one? Is each song $1? If you have an ipod,or something similar, that holds 10,000 songs, isn't that $10,000 worth of music? I could see myself going bankrupt with one of those!!!
I guess that would be $10,000! LOL! I don't know if I even know 10,000 songs, though! We have a lot of songs that we downloaded before they made you pay, though, so we already have a start.
If you already have cd's you can take your favorite music off of them also = ) ...or borrow a friends lol = )
I have an Ipod and I love it!!! You can download music from your cd's. You don't have to buy music. But, if there is a song that you want and you don't have the cd, then you can buy it for .99. I love it because I can download just the songs that I like from my cd's. I also bought a few songs from itunes. I like it because if there are just 1 or 2 songs that you like on a cd, you don't have to buy the cd to get them. You just buy the few songs that you like, which is cheaper. I got the new shuffle ipod that holds 120 songs, which is plenty for me. It was $99.00 and is the size of a small pack of gum. I use it all the time when I walk. Dawn, that is a great idea about making the girls work for their ipods.
They want ipod minis and will get the smaller one of the two. Yeah, my 13yo reminded me that songs from exisiting cds can be loaded onto an ipod, too, not just songs you buy from iTunes.
My dd got one for Christmas. You can buy audiobooks online, too. She loves hers. She hooks hers up to speakers in her room, too.
DAwn unless its Christmas or bday's we make our kids WORK for everything. They have savings acct and even renting games/movies at Blockbuster comes out of their money!!! My oldest has a cell phone and he has to pay for his minutes. Amazing how little he uses his phone. ;) They all had to work in the backyard yesterday picking up rocks and spreading topsoil. Sounds like you have ALOT of pine cones!!! lol You and your dh are doing the right thing.
Can you adopt me? I'll pick up pine cones! LOL! I want an Ipod mini! I do have an mp3 player and I enjoy it, but I want a green or pink one!! LOL!You're a good Mom! My DH loves downloading books to listen to on his commute. He uses Audible.com
We are going to give them lawn-mowing orientation this year, too. We figure at 15 and 13, that they are old enough now. We'll see how that goes.
My husband's buying me an Ipod mini next week with the money he earned building a desk/workshop counter for someone. I think I'm getting the blue one, but I can't decide what I want for my 2 lines of free engraving. He may be getting his own Ipod in a few months when his mom redeems a bunch of points she's earned towards Amazon.com
Dawn, it is awesome that you are making them earn it, my parents made me use my own money (I worked at our family's store from 13 on) to buy extras like that, and I always took so much better care of the things I worked for! Now I wonder how I can make Nate "earn" one, he wants one badly, but it's a luxury we can't really afford right now. LOL
