Mom's w/ older children, do you remember baby facts?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: Mom's w/ older children, do you remember baby facts?

I realize looking on the board that there are whole sections of my much used baby knowledge that I have totally forgotten. I know that sounds strange but when people ask about pregnancy or infants I really have to think about what I did, or what it was like. Is it amnesia? It was only 4 years ago that I had my last little guy. Anybody else have this happen?

I can't remember so much. It's scary!! That's why I don't usually answer questions under the parenting section! LOL

By Conni on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 - 11:43 am:

Ohhhh yeah! I am right there with you. I am major memory loss due to stress I think! Short term AND long term. lol

I also cant type or spell worth a flip! *should read : I HAVE major memory loss... not I AM. ;)

I have forgotten some, but still remember quite a bit, surprisingly!

My son is 10 and I have forgotten a lot of little details. How long he was in a crib, when he went off a bottle, when teething started...all that stuff I have no memory of. It's taught me not to sweat the small stuff now, bec I realized I'm not even going to remember the issue in a few years.

Goodness, my daughter is only two, and I read those questions, and I can't answer half of them! It's as if that first year is a blur. I was just so busy getting through each day that I don't remember a lot. Especially what she did at different stages. Connie, I think you are right, stress! And lack of sleep didn't help...:-) I guess that's why baby books are so popular! (That's if we found time to fill them out.)

My oldest is 21....I'm lucky to remember his birthday! LOL (just kidding, but don't ask me when he cut his first tooth)

It depends........some things I remember vividly....others are cloudy.....

I remember the the major and the minor things, like when my DD skinned her knee for the first time and where it was that it happend at. I guess because she was my first and I was young (21 y/o)It was exciting to me to chart her every movement, we have so many pictures of her as a baby. Today 9 years later with DS I don't have the energy to do all that I did with her so I doubt if I will ever have as many pictures of him as a baby as I did her.

How embrassing the one simple thing that i did forget was that you have to clean there umbilial cord. My son's started pussing and my aunt saw it and asked when was the last time I cleaned it? And I said to her clean it what you mean?

Kids are 15 and 13. It does seem like a LONG time ago and sometimes, I just can't remember a particular issue!

Mine are 16 and 12 but, I remember almost everything. I occassional have to check their baby books for some things.I also babysit and have two babies at the time so that helps me stay up on the baby things.

NAW- I did daycare for 4-1/2 years! So my son is 8-1/2, but it hasn't been that long!

I was just thinking about this the other day! I used to sleep with my son on the couch when he woke up for his mid-night feeding. The other evening I fell asleep with the cat on my lap in the same position as my son used to be! *sigh*

And when I found out I was PG I started using rubber gloves and a face mask to clean the cat box, and I still use them to this day!

I remember changing 20+ diapers a day, I remember potty training 2 daycare kids + my son, I remember making bottles every day and feeding babyfood from a bowl and not the jar, ....

Nope, I ain't forgot nothin!

I have had 4 kids and with everyone have had to ask questions about all the things that I know I should remember. But I do remember the up all nights, changing diapers, the bottles, and potty training but my youngest is only 19 months so we are not finished yet.

What's really interesting is to find out what tidbits your child remembers. Sometimes it's something that we may have considered so forgettable, but it's etched into a child's memory.
