Best way to store cauliflower??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Best way to store cauliflower??
By Vicki on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 10:40 am:

My dd likes raw cauliflower dipped in ranch dressing. I have tried several ways to clean it and cut it up to have available for her to have ready for a snack. What is the best way to clean it and store it? I have tried air tight containers (like tupperware) zip lock bags both closed all the way and open a little and just in a uncovered bowl. None of those ways seem to be better than the other. Is there a way to store it that will help it last longer?? TIA

I keep ours in a gladware broken into small pieces, and haven't noticed it going bad too quickly. Maybe those ziplock bags that are made specifically for veggies? Other than that, I guess there isn't much you can do! I do clean it in a colander first, so most of the water drains off, that makes a big difference. HTH

I dont know if this method is any better than any other but my mom always covered them in water in the tupperware and then sealed it. I dont know why she did this honestly but I figured I would at least post this method and maybe somebody knows why she did it this way.

Well, I have heard to do that with the little baby carrot pieces to keep them from drying out and the cold water keeps them crisp. Maybe it is the same for cauliflower?? Never thought to try that.

Also don't cut with a metla knife, you can use one of those platic cutters or break them apart.

I cut up all fresh veggies and put them in a container of water in the fridge. Just be sure to change the water often, or it will get slimy.
