We need a new printer

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: We need a new printer
By Rayanne on Monday, March 28, 2005 - 09:13 pm:

We have a Lexmark printer right now, and it prints pretty good, but for pictures, it is worthless. They don't look good, and it really bothers me, especially since I am starting Rylee's scrapbook. I want the pictures to look nice. What kind of printer do you have and how well are the pictures that you print? I want a printer that will print pictures like a photo shope.

HP PSC2410 Photosmart all-in-one, printer/fax/scanner/copier. I love it.

LOL Karen. We have the HP 2175 and it is basically the same thing without the fax. We love ours but I do wish we had the fax ability. It's given us great pictures and all the reviews are great. The only drawback is a slow scanning time but the quality is perfect!

I have the HP PSC 1350 all in one too except the fax thingy....it works wonderful and scans well too :) the pictures are great ....it's a usb connection to your computer so make sure you have usb ports...although if you don't you can buy them for fairly cheap and install them yourself if you have an extra slot (I did that on mine)

HP 7760 is greeaaattttt! I recommend any HP printer, especially for photos.

Just got the HP 4215 all in one (printer, fax, scanner) I love it. It is so fast and easy to use. Prints great.

I have an Epson Stulys CX5400 scanner/copier/printer. A big selling point for it was it comes with all the cables included, but the ink is a bit pricey, and I'm not impressed with the quality of print. I don't recommend it.

Well, it looks like HP is the way to go.

What do the numbers mean? (HP PSC2410, HP 2175, HP PSC 1350, HP 7550, HP 7760, & HP 4215)

By Kaye on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 03:53 pm:

For printing scrapbook pictures, you are MUCH better off getting them done at a lab. At home printed pictures have layered colors and will fade over time. Walgreens and sams will print out photos pretty inexpensively.

By Rayanne on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 03:58 pm:

Thanks Kaye. I was wondering about that.

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 04:29 pm:

Just FYI- I NEVER print photos at home unless it's just an extra here and there. It is soooo much more expensive for the ink and paper. I learned that really quickly! I send them online to Walmart or Meijer and pick them up when I go into town again. It's about .19/print that way ans sooo easy!

The numbers on the HP's are models. Like ours is the Photosmart 7760 and works independently of the computer or with it. It has all the media slots for you to stick your memory card into, so it doesn't matter what type of digital camera you have. It also has a display window and photo options so you don't even need the computer to be on if you're printing pix from a memory card. We love it. It's almost 2 years old and we paid about $150 for it then, which we feel is SO cheap since it's great. You just put in the photo ink cartridge when you want to print a photo and the black for regular printing.

I'm a big scrapper, too and I only print enlargements for my scrapbooks or an extra here or there when necessary.

We have the HP PSC 1350 and I wouldn't recommend it for printing out pics. It does a good job, but you can really tell they are printed out on a home printer.

I use snapfish.com for all my digital photos. I can edit them to the way I want them and then download them to snapfish. From there I order all the prints I want. They are fast, and the pictures look nice. You can choose mat or glossy finish. I think I pay 18 cents per picture. I have found that I like the quality of those pictures better than the ones that the machine at wal-mart does when I plug my little digital card into it.

As for the numbers that you asked about. The higher the number, the better the quality! :)

We also just take our disc to Walmart and have our prints made there. We have 2 laser printers for the downstairs computers and in inkjet on my daughter's computer. The free Epson printer that came with our Dell 3-1/2 years ago, just wasn't printing very well anymore. When kids printed stuff for school, it looked like crap, so we sent the Epson to someone else and told her it's problems and we bought a new one. This time we got an Epson C-86. It prints FAST and it prints well. We haven't tried a photograph yet, since we usually take them to Walmart, but for printing out a brochure for school, it did a lovely job. Today, we printed the map of the Niagara Falls area, since we might take a trip there this summer and it did a beautiful job! The old Epson would have the stupid lines across the graphic.

BTW, I don't recommend using the machine at Walmart either, unless you have a regular film photo that you want to change in some way and don't have it on a cd. Snapfish is also good and I have used it once or twice (just started) but I still prefer Meijer over anyone. The picture quality is fantastic and it's very easy.

Prints that you make at home with even the best photo printer will fade in 5-10 years or so, (depending on where you store them) because they are made with inks and dyes.

The photo services mentioned earlier and others (Ofoto(now called Kodak Easyshare Gallery), Shutterfly, Snap Fish and others) use photographic paper for prints, which can last up to 25 years.

Momsview also occasionally has online coupon codes for some of these:
