Spotting after pregnancy
Okay, a wierd question but here goes. I am almost 2 months post partum and exclusively breastfeeding. With dd#1 I didn't get a cycle until she was almost a year old and expected the same with this one. But yesterday I started spotting some and then some today (very slight). Anyone have a clue as to what this could be? My mind is questioning pregnancy (and very nervous about the thought ) since I had implantation bleeding with this last one and that is what it was like. Any other ideas? Thanks
Are you using BC? You should def be using something, because breastfeeding isn't always effective. I only nursed for 2 months, and was bleeding the whole time (I bled 8 weeks postpartum), but it is very possible to get pregnant so you might want to take a test. Other than that, not all women who are exclusively BF have no cycle, and each baby is different, so you may just be preparing to go to normal cycles.
I started my periods within 3-4 weeks of stopping the postpartum bleeding. Ya just never know. BF is not a form of birthcontrol, so use protection if you don't want to get pregant, you never know when your cycle will start again. I had implantation bleeding with my 1st but not my next two.
I didn't get my period back until my kids were 4 months old. I BF them, too. I guess I would recommend the test, too, just to be on the safe side.
Breastfeeding is not a form a birthcontrol. You can get pregnant when you are breastfeeding. The problem is that you don't know when you ovulate, that is why a lot of women get pregnant while they are breastfeeding. I spotted about 2 months after I had Rylee, and then I didn't again until I stopped breastfeeding. If you are really concerned, I would take a test, or see your doctor. Good luck sweetie.
To put your mind at ease, I'd take a home pregnancy test, but if you're nursing exclusively and on demand (I assume?), I'd say your chances of being pregnant are slim (but not impossible). Of the five times I've breastfed, twice I had spotting, but my periods didn't really return until my kids were 9 - 11 months old. Here's an article called Birth Control by Breastfeeding if anyone is interested.
Emdee, you and I are close in delivery dates. I had spotting but it was not red, just that brownish stuff. I do, however have that "I feel like I'm about to start me period" feeling. I don't like it either. Other than that, how's it going? We are adjusting fine here. DS has been sleeping from 9pm to 5am for the last few days. I love it! Could anyone explain to me why I am still exhausted and need to crawl back into bed after having had a full nights sleep? He is getting really good at smiling too and is cooing now aas well. I love the cooing.
Dana, I am glad things are going so good for your new addition! I guess the BF has worked itself out for you. My dd still only goes about 4 hours at night, but there have been a few 5-6 hour nights so I think she is going in the right direction. She spits up terribly (and on meds for acid reflux) so I am getting used to alot of laundry . She just started smiling really well and has cooed a few times, and I am the same as you--I love to just watch her smile and wait to see if she coos. Everyone else: Thanks for the comments. I am sure it is just my body getting back to normal, but since I didn't do this with #1 I was just curious about it.
I spotted the first month but did not get my period until just now! She is 16 mos. Still BF but it finally came anyway! Yours may be shortlived as well!
