Do Your Kids Eat Vegetables?
Mine eat raw carrots and celery , corn on the cob and that's about it. They also like Cherry tomatoes. How do you get them to eat vegetables? Do you have any good recipes for veggies? To be honest, i am not really a fan of veggies either. I prefer them raw. I also like veggie tray type veggies. I make mixed veggies but they don't eat them. Any suggestions?
My kids love veggies. Favorites include: Garlic sesame spinach Brussel sprouts steamed Green bean mix (yellow and green) I use eggplant in a lot of recipes in place of meat. They love corn on the cob cooked on the grill tomatoes roasted on the grill etc... We steam or grill most of our veggies and have tried (new years resolution) to eat 75 % vegetables 25% meat for dinner. The kids have been great at selecting new ways of cooking vegetables and in result have been willing to try vegetables they thought they wouldn't like. Good luck!
I serve them at every meal and the boys have to have a taste, but they wouldn't do that much if we didn't make them. I wish they liked veggies. There is hope though...as a kid I ONLY ate corn and I love all sorts of veggies now. It still amazes my mom.
Hailey LOVES vegetables, she eats Corn on the cob (loves it), green beans, carrots and peas, even spinach. She just started liking mashed potatoes. She doesn't really care for any raw veggies. Katelyn on the other hand likes mashed potatoes but that's about all, I have to get her nutritional foods from fruits.
For raw veggies try different dips. For cooked veggies, you can add cheese or butter to almost any of them to make them more "appealing" but they won't be as nutritious. My mom will put a slice of American cheese in a cooked, drained can of green beans. It's actually pretty good. My kids eat lots of veggies, raw and cooked. Corn on the cob, of course, is their favorite.
oh and I read somewhere that some kids are super sensitive to the taste in some veggies, so add a little salt or sugar to counteract with it. worth a try.
I guess I'm lucky, mine always liked vegies without much encouragement, with few exceptions - one of the big ones being BEETS! We've always eaten a lot of salads and fresh, raw vegies, I always put carrot or celery sticks, or pieces of cauliflower or broccoli in their lunch boxes, and we all like to snack on vegies and dip.
I've always loved veggies, my mom joked I was the only kid in the world who ate brussel sprouts without a hassle. My kids eat carrot sticks, celery sticks, cauliflower, corn, and an ocassional salad. Getting them to eat veggies is like pulling teeth, but they like fruit a lot. I'm curious how some of you moms with picky eaters sneak veggies in, any tricks to share?
Nooooooo......
My 10-year-old will eat tomato soup and tomato sauce on spaghetti. He also likes corn just cut off the cob, but that's about it as far as veggies. I didn't eat veggies until I was a teenager. I'm not too worried about it. He eats very few processed foods and no fast food, so it's not all bad.
They eat very little veggies. But they eat just about any fruit and they have no problem taking vitamins. So i'm sure they will be fine. I even told my dd to put ketchup on her mixed veggies tonight so she didn't taste them. (we had burgers and fries so the ketchup was already on her plate). She tried it that way and said " I am still crunching the vegetables!" LOL How picky is that?
Both of my kids like veggies. I LOVE veggies, so I think they got it from me! I love cooked veggies and raw ones too. Yum!
DD loves veggies. She really enjoys steamed zucchini and squash. And she likes celery with peanut butter and raisins to decorate it. She loves fruits of all kinds. Shes not much of a picky eater.
My oldest loves veggies, carrots cooked or raw, broccoli, peas, green beans, corn, zuchinni, squash, salad. Honestly, I should be offering her more variety but I only like those and rarely make anything else. My son like about 5 different ones and gets one of those most nights. My youngest has to be encouraged to eat even a few bites of whatever veggies we are having. I grate carrots or zuchinni into spaghetti sauce or meat loaf. Most of the casseroles I make have lots of veggies so they are getting alot that way too. My kids will eat veggies in soup that they won't eat alone on their plate. My girls love fruit (almost all kinds) but my son will not eat a single one. Trader Joe's carries a fruit leather that is relatively low in sugar and it's 100% fruit. He loves them and so he eats one of those each day.
My kids both love all fruit and veggies. They both have since they started on solids. I haven't found anything Timmy doesn't like yet including spinich. He and Rich love it!!
Nope. But they will eat fruit. I just make sure they get their vitamins. ****frustrated Mommy sigh****
Patti, if you like the vegie tray vegies, offer those. It almost makes it seem like *party* food, and that in itself is sometimes enough to encourage them to eat them. We like to grill vegies when we grill steak or chicken - slices of zucchini or yellow squash, or whatever - and we never eat canned vegies. They just do not taste like the real thing. We will eat frozen vegies, but we all much prefer fresh. During the summer months we almost always have salad or grilled vegies, and I've been doing this since my kids were very young. But often kids have to *grow* into liking vegies. Keep offering them........
thanks Karen. We do have a vegetable garden in the summertime. The kids pick the cherry tomotoes right off the vine and eat them. Same with the peas. I don't know how they eat raw peas but they do. My dh does too,i think its gross. We have grilled veggies a lot in the summer and corn on the cob several times a week. But in the winter time, they really don't eat many veggies except the raw carrots and raw celery. I guess they are doing alright anyway and like i did, they will grow into the veggies.
My oldest only eats fruits and veggies when forced, but my youngest eats just about every fruit and veggie out there including brussle sprouts and asparagus (he's the only child I personally know who will eat those two items). The only things he won't eat are tomatoes and peas.
