Please, if you have never, or haven't recently, check your state for registered sex offenders living near you. I don't know how to post clickable links but you can cut and paste this one.

Sex Offenders

By Elizabeth704 on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 11:55 am:

We do this fairly often and it makes my hair stand up all over my body!!!! I am mortified by how many there are. What scares me more is that it only represents those that are compliant with the law. I also wonder what the original charge was - most just say indecent liberties with a minor - does this mean raped/molested a 2 year old or had a relationship with a 17 year old. Not that one is right and one is wrong, I just would like to know what the actual charge was - not what the plead upon final result was.

Poor Jessica Lunsford brings it all in perspective that a predator could be living right across the street!!!!!
Hopefully this will bring up some harsher legislature on the keeping up with these pedifiles!!!!
UGH!!!!!!

Thank you very much. I will check often.

Yes, it's overwhelming to see how many are out there...

I am a cautious, paranoid person...the fact that WE have to put OUR name and address just to CHECK on these criminals, upsets me. What if somehow that info gets out and these guys decide to track us down? Sort of 'punish' us for checking up on us? I just don't like that at all...makes me feel vulnerable.

By Colette on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 02:56 pm:

Kate, that must just be your state. My state doesn't require that. My state also lists people who live as well as people who are registered that work in the town you are looking up.

Thanks alot Colette, we are in the process of looking for a house and this will help tons. And there are way more people in my county than I would like for there to be.:(

We have a sexual predator living on the street behind us. I HATE it!!!!!!!!! He moved in after we did an lives with his girlfriend. WHY WOULD SOMENE DATE SOMEONE LIKE THAT?!?! I signed a petition a while ago to get him out of here, but he is still there, so I don't know what happened.

On the same note, why would women get involved with and mant times marry murderers on deathrow? Scott Peterson is already getting letters from women, asking to meet him. It's crazy!

There's one living down the street, convicted of aggravated sexual assault on a little girl. Another neighbor lets their girl (about 8 or so) ride her bike without a helmet in the middle of the street. The girl doesn't move for cars AT ALL, and people tend to drive fast on my street. I was upset about her dangerous riding habits, then thought "Do her parents know there is a sex offender a few houses down?" I think it was Cori who told me it's not the ones who are on the registry, but the ones you don't know about that you need to worry about, which was true in Jessica's death, but why take chances? People assume it won't happen to them, it won't be their child, but you never know.

Rayanne, I know what you mean about being uncomfortable, but the man has to live somewhere, and you should be grateful he registered, a LOT of them don't even though they are required. You won't be able to petition him out of the neighborhood, because he has rights, but you can be cautious, since you know he's there.

That's true. I'd rather know then not know.
