OUCH!!! I did it again :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: OUCH!!! I did it again :(
By Rayanne on Saturday, March 19, 2005 - 11:06 pm:

Last November, I was putting clothes into the washing machine and my right pinky fingernail got stuck in the hole and tore my nail right off. Tonight, I was at a friends house, and I was feeding Rylee her food, and it almost fell on the floor, so I went to catch it, and my nail hit the arm of the chair and it took my left pinkinail off. It hurts so darn bad. Chris just MADE me put Peroxide on it, and OH MY GOODNESS...it stung soooo bad. I just needed to vent.

My nails are so thin, so I have acrylic on them hoping to make them stronger...NOPE, just more of a pain. I think that once they grow out, I'm getting them taken off, and splurging on pedicures from now on.

I wish I had long STRONG nails of my very own. They have always been so brittle and soft. Even when I was pregnant, they were soft. I don't know what else to do.

Any suggestions?

No suggestions.. but OUCH that had to hurt. I would think the acrylic would make them weaker. I don't know but the one time I had acrylic it weakened my nails.

Acrylic nails does make your real nails weak. Have you tried any of the nail streghtener polishes? That may help and vitamins for your nails too. So sorry I know how bad that hurts!

By Rayanne on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 10:45 am:

I have tried almost every polish at the stores that I can find.
What kind of vitamins help your nails Candis? The pre-natal ones never did anything for mine:(.

Rayanne, do you get enough calcium in your diet? I'm a dairy lover, who takes calcium suppliments too. I credit that for my extremely strong nails.

By Rayanne on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 01:18 pm:

I love milk. I don't drink everyday like I used to, but I try to have at least a glass a day. What kind of calcium supplements are there?

By Livvy on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 01:58 pm:

I swear by a clear nail polish called "Nalitiques"
I get mine at a store in the mall called Trade Winds. It is a bit pricy ($27 a bottle) but if you are faithful to, it works wonders. I have a huge problem with my thumb nails splitting way down in my nail bed and when I use Nailtiques (#2 bottle) like I'm supposed to, I never have a problem!!!

Not sure where you can get it near you, sometimes hair salons carry it, but it's the only thing I have found that is worth the money!!

Nail Envy by OPI - I used Nailtiques for years, unitl this came out! It is WONDERFUL! It's also less expensive. Call a beauty supply place near you to get it.
And I know how you feel. All my nails were a beautiful length and strong. Until I had a run in with the trash compactor and broke three!
So, they're back to short for now.
Also, when you shape them, don't file the sides, this will keep them stronger.
Good luck.

Any supermarket or drug store will have calcium supplements in the vitamin section.

By My2cuties on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 09:41 pm:

Sorry I am just now reading this post again....just women's vitamins. I keep mine short because they tend to chip off unless I am very careful, plus they scratch the girls. That is another reason I am getting my artificial nails put back on after I have the baby (they don't scratch)

acrylic nails if at all make your nails real thin. I did nails for 2 years in a salon and seen some horrible things Thats why I quit doing them. vitamins really help during the evening when things are quiet take some vitamin e and warm it rub it around your nail and nail bed and put some seran wrap or some gloves on and if you can handle it sleep that way all night it really helps. also the opi nail polish works really good.

I heard about a new product called Virtual Nails. Here is their web-site.

Apparently they do not damage your nail bed, how cool is that!

If anyone has tried these let me know how they are.

Well, if they had a store here, I might consider that. I think that it says that they are only in New York and Japan now. Hopefully they will open one here too.
