Air purifiers
Living Air VS Ionic Breeze The race is on. Does anyone have experience or opinions on these or any other air purifiers? We are in the market and want to make the best purchase, we are mainly looking for allergy reducing because of asthma and air freshening because of three boys TIA
Our allergist recommended a HEPA air cleaner. DS has had one in his room for 2 yrs. now and it has made a huge difference. It's a Honeywell and it cost about $150. Are you looking for one room or the whole house? The Ionic breeze got a solid black mark from Consumer Reports.
What's a black mark mean, Trina? It's funny you posted this, Kym... I was noticing yesterday how dusty and icky our air is, no matter how much I clean. Shane had to go to the ER for wheezing from a cold, and I was thinking we need to get a purifier. I'm interested in the responses here.
A black mark means it performed poorly during testing and CR doesn't recommend it. We have an electrostatic air cleaner hooked up to our central heat/AC system. DH and DD have environmental allergies. We also have a HEPA air cleaner in DS's room due to his cat allergy induced asthma. (We still have 2 cats.)
I don't want the cost of the hepa filters, or the cost of more than one unit, Living Air has one that will do 3000 sq feet so it will cover my house.
Wow,I can't believe that you posted this.I,too,am in the market for one.I was looking at Wal-Mart last night.A friend of mine swears by one made by Delonghi.Has anyone ever used one of these? Thanks for starting this thread,Kym.
Bump Bump Bump I bumped this back up in hopes of getting some more ideas.Thanks.
I have two ionic breezes and I love them. I know I'm not CR, but the black soot it picked up out of my air is amazing. Also, a mouse died under my couch, behind the radiator. I only started to smell it when the ionic breeze needed cleaning. I don't really like cleaning the collection grid, but it's better than spending money to replace a filter, and probably more ecologically sound. Ame
Is the Living Air Ionic Breeze the same as the Sharper Image one? If not, which one got a poor review. Ame, which one do you have? I'm a bit confused, because I noticed several ionic air purifiers at Target, of course none of which were "the" Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image.
I have the Sharper Image one with the germicidal lamps. Ame
Have you looked at the Ecoquest products Kym? My Mom has an air putifier from them that she LOVES and it does her whole house. Smells so clean too.
I have an ionic breeze in the kitchen. I think it is good for making the air smell good. Not for allergies like Trina said. We have a blue air for the bedroom. I think it is good....
The Living Air attacks more allergens than the ionic breeze, plus one machine will do multiple rooms, one will do my entire house. So I think after searching it's gonna be the one to go with because of allergies. I have looked in the Freidrich also, but it's vrey pricey, but scored hi in CR, but the living air was not compared? Conni, I will do a search for ecoquest, thanks hadn't heard of that one. Wandilu and Crystal, have you made any decisions?
We're still discussing our options, but the constant breathing trouble and floating dust are killing me, so we're going to have to pick one soon. If we go for a pricey one we'll have to wait a couple more weeks until our tax return comes in. We're not so much worried about allergens other than dust, so whatever we choose will have to really clear the dust from the air!
I think we're going to go with the Ionic Pro. It compared well with the Sharper Image Quadra, for about half the price. I really dislike the idea of filters, so I think the Ionic Pro is our best choice.
