Parents' club meeting time
The school my children go to has a Parents' Club that meets at 9:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. In all of the towns around here, the PTA's meet in the evening. I'm just curious to see what other districts around the country do.
Here in my area of Texas, I don't know of any PTA's or PTO's, etc. that meet consistently during the day. With so many parents these days working outside the home, I think this really discourages parents from being involved in their children's school activities. It sounds like it was probably set up at the convenience of some parent leaders along the way.
My son's private school has a Parent's Association that meets during the day. I work so I don't go. It is a pure-dee social outing for moms who stay home *and* don't have any little ones at home. Our former public school the PTA meets at night.
Our private school started alternating their monthly parents association meetings - one is held at lunchtime (people can brown bag), and the next is held in the evening. Both actually can work for parents who work outside the home - have to give them credit for that one.
PTA here meets at 6:00pm. It seems sooo inconvenient for most parents to meet at 9am.
I'm glad there are others that share the believe that it is an inconvenient time. The people who show up for the meetings are mostly using it for a social outing. They don't really want to volunteer for any committees, just sit and talk and gossip. Nearly 3/4 of the parents want to meet in the evenings. There is a group of parents who are actually thinking of forming their own parents' club that meets in the evenings. I didn't think a school could have 2 parents' clubs. I think this is all going to come to a head in the next few months. This town is slooooowww to change but it's time to change this, I think.
Ours is a mix. The general PTA meetings are normally at 7 pm, but the executive board (president, vp, etc, there are about 25 of us) meet in the am. And if they have to call a special session then they do that in the am also. Since I don't work I prefer that they are during school time. Our evenings are so full. We have near 1000 students in our school, our night time meeting was last night and there were only 20 cars in the parking lot. But on our am ones we always have at least 20 in attendance, and it isn't open to the public per say.
Elementary and Middle school are usually at noon. High school is in the evening.
The PTO for the elementary schools meets at night here.
