Camping
My girl scout troop is going camping this weekend. Today we are meeting to make a meal plan. Any suggestions for camping meals? There will be 16 of us.
What are your cooking options? Open Pit fire or grill?
Hi, Kaye. I'm a Girl Scout leader in Central Illinois. We are 2nd/3rd grade Brownies and are getting ready to fly up to Juniors. We have 23 girls in our troop. That's down from the 34 we had last year. We love to go camping with our girls. Here are some recipes we like. Banana Boats 2 bananas 1 Hershey milk chocolate bar 1/2 cup mini marshmallows With the stem of the banana facing up, cut a slit in each banana leaving about 1/2 inch on each end uncut. Place a layer of chocolate in the slit and then a layer of marshmallows on top of that. Wrap in aluminum foil and heat on grill over a hot bed of coals until marshmallows and chocloate are melted. Camper's Pizza Bread butter Mozzarella cheese (we always use shredded) Sauce Toppings - pepperoni, cooked sausage, etc. Butter on side of two slice of bread. Place one slice of bread on your pie iron with buttered side down. Top with pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings. Place other slice of bread on top with buttered side out. Place pie iron over the fire. Keep turning it unitl the bread is toasted. I must admit sometimes we just order pizza in for the girls and just hang out.
You can always do burgers and hot dogs with chips for lunch or dinner. Cold cuts if you have a cooler with you. Breakfast ideas - cast iron skillets to make scrambled eggs and bacon. With cast iron you could do a lot - grilled cheese sandwiches, heating up canned items, etc.
We used to make a peach cobbler every time we went GS camping, but I haven't got the slightest idea what we used. I know Bisquik was involved. You could make mini pizzas with English Muffins.
S'MORES! lol my fave camping food ... well I guess it's not really food...but what's camping without smore's
