Rubber Pants?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2005: Rubber Pants?
By Rayanne on Saturday, February 12, 2005 - 11:36 am:

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but what are rubber pants? Rylee needs to wear a swimming diaper (I know what those are), rubber pants and a bathing suit for her swimming lessons. I don't know what rubber pants are and why she needs them. Can someone help me, and do you know where I can buy some?

By Colette on Saturday, February 12, 2005 - 11:38 am:

They are what people used to put over cloth diapers so they don't leak. They basically look like underwear, they probably have them at walmart or any baby department.

You might be able to find them at Wal-Mart. As Colette said, they are pants with a plastic lining that people use for toilet training.

Swim diapers are required at pools because fecal matter can contaminate the pool water and make other swimmers seriously ill. However, I've never heard of a pool requiring both a swim diaper and rubber pants. Some toddler swimsuits have rubber linings built in.

Speedo sells a swimsuit that has a swim diaper/rubber pant built in. My DS has a pair and that is what we used in the pool when he was little. I also used a Swim Diaper just to be on the safe side.

We also bought a pair at The Right Start a couple years ago...don't know if they still sell them.

Good luck.:)

A swim diaper does NOT do a great job of keeping fecal matter in. There have been several incidents of the poop coming out and into the pool. If that happens they have to shut the pool down for at least several hours. I am not sure how that is different than if the poop is in the diaper btw..lol. Rubber pants aremore secure around the legs. A lot of our public pools do not allow swim diapers anymore. Rubber pants are the only thing they allow (ontop of whatever).

We had one of these for DS:

Two of my kids will always wear diapers. This is the brand that the pool people require. They are well made, and do a great job. They're also reasonable.

We just use the Huggies Swim diapers, you can get them at Wal-Mart.

She has to wear the rubber pants over the swimmy diapers though. I looked at Target today, and they didn't have any. I have until May to find them, so I have time. I will try Wal-Mart next and then Babies R Us.

Rayanne...I'm in the same predicament. I've looked at iplaybabywear.com and they can show you local retailers that might specialize in selling them I'm surprised that the pool doesn't just sell them right there?

PS- I think the coupon above is funny for this topic. AAHH...one day we will all probably need those.

Wal-Mart doesn't have them???? Wow. I feel old. My oldest dd (now 15) wore cloth diapers and plastic pants (I was really into saving the environment back then, LOL)... I thought they'd ALWAYS be around!

By Marcia on Sunday, February 13, 2005 - 10:18 pm:

You won't need rubber pants if you get some like the ones I posted. They have their own cover.
I'm pretty sure K-Mart has rubber pants. You might even find them at Dollar General.
