Are paid surveys a scam?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2005: Are paid surveys a scam?

Too embarrassed to ask.

Does anyone do them here?

You see ads for them but yet you pay $24.95+ to get into them? Do they really pay you to take the surveys or are they scams?

By Anonymous on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 02:23 pm:

Just click on the smart ad above the first post and you will see what I mean.

I don't know. I have never done anything like that. I am interested to see what others have to say though.

I'm a member of several sites, and I receive checks that have ranged from $5 to $100 for surveys I did.

It's quite a pick-me-up to go to my mailbox and find a check every few weeks. :)

I don't generally 'refer friends' without their permission (so don't worry, ladies - I won't cause you to be 'spammed' LOL) because I don't like to bug people, even though you can receive incentives for that as well.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 05:11 pm:

Kay, you can spam me all you want as long as I get a check in the mail, LOL! :)

I'm a member of www.mysurvey.com. IT's like an incentive program where you get points for surveys and the points can buy you things from their "store." It's not cash but it still has brought DD in a few books and things!

By Kay on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 05:44 pm:

I'm a part of that one, too. Actually, can't you use that one to get $10 in cash for 1000 points?

By Palmbchprincess on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 05:47 pm:

All of the paid surveys I've done have been from sites with free sign ups. I never pay up front ot be part of something.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 06:01 pm:

Yes, Kay. You can get $10 for every 1000 pts. :) BTW, I received your email. Thanks!

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 06:06 pm:

As far as I'm concerned, anything you have to pay up front for in order to get money is almost certainly a scam - just like the old "work from home" scams.

Kay, you can email me or recommend me klipvm at rcn.com

I do the Greenfield surveys, and occasionally there is a small payment. On the whole, I am inclined to respond to legitimate surveys on the internet or telephone - that is, those which are clearly surveys and not tilted to a particular product or a leadin to a promotion. My mom worked for a survey firm for years and I did too, for a while.

I am a member of mypoints.com and mysurvey.com. Kay, drop me a line too, please! Addy is in my profile. :) I wouldn't bother with any service that requires money up front.

By Jelygu on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 07:55 pm:

I also am skeptical about things you have to pay up front. However, Kay, you can recommend me as well. My email is in my profile :)

By Kay on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 08:38 pm:

I've never paid money up front for *any* money-making venture - and never will! I'm skeptical by nature. :)

By Kay on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 - 08:43 pm:

I do most of my internet buying through mypoints.com - so far, I've gotten enough points for $20 in Circuit City cards, and $30 in Target cards. The ones I received before December helped me in my Christmas shopping.

Kay, drop me an e-mail too hun. I would greatly appreciate it:) My e-mail address is in my profile.
