Heart question
I'm filling out a health questionaire and it's asked if my parents have had heart disease. My dad had a heart attack, but that's not necessarily heart disease, is it? Mom says no, sister says yes. I'll take all opinions and split the difference. TIA!
I agree with your sister. I believe any kind of condition or disease involving the heart would fall under the umbrella term "heart disease".
I work with physicians, and yes - any type of heart anomaly, be it a heart attack, palpitations, etc. are referred to as 'heart disease', because a healthy heart will not go through an 'attack'.
I would say Yes.
I would say yes and if asked then say he had a heart attack and let them (whoever it is for..dr, ins, etc) be the judge.
I'd go with yes. A heart attack is still caused by an unhealthy heart.
Janet, if you are filling out an insurance form and worried about putting heart disease, find out if you can why your father had heart disease. Not all heart disease is family related and some many physicians believe that some cases of heart disease can be caused by a virus and we all know that poor diet and smoking can contribute to this disease.
I vote yes too!
I agree with Heaventree...my dad has heart disease that is strictly due to a lifetime of smoking, nothing hereditary at all. He had a heart attack and quadruple bypass simply due to cigarettes. See if you can find out what caused your dad's heart attack. For insurance you would hate to put family heart disease if you don't really need to!!!
No, it's not for insurance, it's for the Sister Study. If I get the opportunity to ask, I will. But I think I'll go ahead and put "yes." Thanks!
I would say yes!
Thanks!
