When Did Hershey Bars Shrink?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2005: When Did Hershey Bars Shrink?

I've just had a day where I sent my husband out for chocolate ... When he came bask, I was shocked! What happened to Hershey bars? They got credit card thin! I was not happy to see this.

Have they gone the way of the yogurt makers (except Columbo) that resized their product? For shame...

They shrank the same time the price went up.

HHmmmm...haven't bought one in a while. Good excuse to buy one though! LOL! I must check this out for myself!
I bet they did it so the calories looked lower and so they could profit more in this "health conscious" age.
Do they really think that those who buy a Hershey bar really care at that point? LOL

Yeah, what is with Dannon shrinking their yogurt size? Our store phased out Columbo, so I can't even buy that anymore.

I haven't bought a Hershey bar in a while, so didn't realize they shrank, too.

I don't know after that, as I became a strictly dark chocolate fan and discovered the little Dove dark chocolate squares a few years ago.

But I've noticed that laundry detergent is often in some odd ounce size, not an even gallon or half-gallon, and lots of other products have a package that "looks" the same size, but when you compare weights it is smaller. I really pay attention to the price-per-ounce on the price tags on the shelves in the supermarkets nowadays.

And what, pray tell, is with the price of butter and cheese? It is ridiculous!!!

Okay, then they did shrink. I just got back from the store and the Hershey bar is now 1.55 oz! Oh, and I felt compelled to buy the stupid thing because I've had Hershey bar on the brain all day! However, we did split it three ways between the kids and me. (DH is at work, so his loss!)

The same thing happened to Hershey bars that happened to coffee. When I went to school, a pound was sixteen ounces. Now, a one "pound" can of coffee is thirteen ounces.

The manufacturers hope that we won't notice.

Is that like a 1-lb can of tomatoes that used to be 16 ounces, but is now 14.5 ounces? LOL! I have recipes that call for 1-lb cans of tomatoes, so I knew they used to exist!
