What are you doing with your tax returns?
I thought it might be fun to see what everyones plans are with their tax returns! We are paying a couple of bills off, taking a overnight shopping getaway with the kids and buying a new treadmill.
What tax return? LOL! We haven't had a tax return in many years.
LOL, ditto Michele. We always end up paying.
We had to pay last year and I am guessing the same for this year too.... we used to get pretty good refunds, but I think those days are over!!! Have fun with yours though! They are fun to get!!
Wow...we haven't had a tax return in years...I miss those days! LOL
We haven't decided yet. My car was hit a few weeks ago and the person left so we have to pay for the bodywork on that. We have a few options on the rest of it. We'll pay some bills but we may take a trip to Seattle to visit my MIL and that side of the family. They've never seen the dks. We may just do a weekend getaway and do some fun stuff around the house, think redecorating!!! We may just put it away for a rainy day.
We are paying off bills. We have some credit card bills and some things financed that I want to get rid of. Soon I will be debt free!!!!
Basically paying off hospital bills so we can get back on track. We aren't getting alot back Sure wish we could enjoy it and go on a "shopping getaway". Have a good time with yours and feel fortunate you can spend it in that way Amy
We aren't getting much back this year. What we are getting we are putting away for our vacation. We are going to California for a week this summer.
we are paying off all of our debt, and buying new livingroom furniture. I am so excited, I can't wait, we will go file within the next 2 weeks.
Replacing the carpet in the family room and installing new toilets. WHOO HOO!! lol
We are buying all new appliances. Whirlpool duet washer & dryer Whirlpool dishwasher Whirlpool smooth surface stove Whirlpool side by side fridge It worked out that all the ones we liked were Whirlpool. Hopefully they will last much longer than our previous appliances! Yvonne
we are having a surprise 60th b-day party for my mom and getting her new kitchen cupboards, my brother and sisters are going in on this, than we are getting half of a steer and than the rest we are saving for our trip to nags head , nc. :0)
We are paying of the credit cards from all the remodeling we have done this past year and we are going to redo the kids bathroom and since you need to have some fun with a return...we are going to VEGAS for 3 days with no kids to have some Mommy and Daddy FUN!!!
I'm actually getting a new computer for work and we are getting a much needed new washer and dryer!
We pay our real estate tax and school tax every year with ours then the rest is used for whatever is needed at the time. Today I went and bought a cordless mouse for the comp, new light fixtures for all the bedrooms. And this weekend I am headed out to look for vertical blinds for my two big windows. I like having that extra money once a year
Wow...some of you must be getting big refunds. You might want to change the withholdings from your paycheck, as you actually DON'T want a refund. A refund is simply a return of your very own money that the government got to borrow, interest free. You really want to break even or even owe the government, so that that money that would have been your refund, is actually in your possession earning you interest in your own bank or whatever. It's not a 'bonus' or a good thing, it was your money all along and all along you didn't get to make it work for you, instead the government got to use it for free.
We ARE getting a very large refund this year. The main reason is my husband gets paid part commision/part bonus. The bonuses they take out almost half? and then we get it back when we file. I do not pretend to understand why his bonuses seem to be double taxed. Maybe someone can explain that to me. As people who do not save as much as we like, we enjoy the large dose of cash coming in right after the holiday season. In previous years we have invested it. This year we are buying much needed appliances.
AAAHHH...Kate, you ring so true. You want to just about break even. I can find a fund that can earn interest on the money the government would normally have their hands on.
We are going to use some for Rylee's swimming lessons this summer, and the rest will probably go into savings. We were supposed to put up a fence over the Christmas holiday, but things happened, and we couldn't afford it, so maybe we will do that.
Paving the driveway
I'm not sure how much we will be getting back but i have a treadmill in layaway and a tv also = ) so hopefully we will get enough back for them two things at least. We will probably use the rest to get by the next few months considering my husband is coming home and we will be making considerably less per week/month than when he was gone.that's okay though i'm ready to have him back home for good.
We make sure that we don't get money back each year by having more taken out during the year - it makes no sense to me to have the government make interest on *my* money for a year!
We may not see a tax refund this year. So, I have no clue. Our taxes are being worked on, as I speak. We dropped off our information at the accountant's on Monday and they should be done next week.
I'm with Kay. We arrange for us to keep our money. We don't let Uncle use it for free. We'd rather have to pay at tax time.
We are not real good savers so it is nice to have someone hold the money even if it is not getting any interest. Plus, I do not want to have to come up with money at tax time that seems like just another bill that I could avoid by DH simply holding out more from his check, and we don't miss it during the year. Maybe when we are older we will be better savers and we won't have to look at it like this.
We usually get a little bit back, we haven't done our taxes yet, so I don't know what this year holds. We claim a lot of exemptions, but it seems we always get something back. Ideally we would be even, but if I have to choose I choose getting money because we never seem to have enough to pay the big bills as it is.
Last year, we stayed home and worked on our fixer upper house but this year we've decided to go on vacation. We are taking the children to Orlando. AJ
Yvonne, my dh gets a big bonus each year and they take out 40%. I don't understand it either. We always get money back because of this.
Debbie, It kinda stinks because my husband gets bonuses once a month and they are a major part of his income but we have to wait all year to really reap the benefits. Granted I appreciate the bonuses but ...They are the major factor why we get a large refund. We went to Lowes last night and bought all the appliances. I am excited about getting them. They will be delivered on Tuesday. Yvonne PS...I used Turbotax and it walked me through everything (we even were able to write off interest on boat, car, and other large purchases). That is a new Florida law. The refund only takes 2 weeks to be deposited into account.
We havn't done our taxes yet (this weekend!) but i am sure we are going to pay off a bunch of credit cards. Hopefully redo ds's room and the rest will go into escrow for vacations and stuff. My dh will be getting his raise and bonus about the same time we get the refund, so WHOO HOO! We'lll be a little more comfortable by March!
We choose to let the government borrow the money interest free Otherwise, we wouldn't save it! We get about $5K a year back on taxes. We claim 1 on our taxes all year and then when tax time comes we bump it up to claiming 4. Then we get a large refund. That way we can use it to make large purchases. I did watch on Good Morning America that you should bump up your dependants and get paid more weekly instead of waiting for your refund. But, that just doesn't work out for us
I also prefer to get the refund back each year because I would spend the little bit each month, but it is nice to have it withheld then get a refund. My husband also gets a bonus which is taxed at 40% each year. So we get the bonus around the same time as our taxes. Last year we took the girls to Disney World, but this year we have decided to pay off some debts and put a fence up in the backyard!Next year we will use the money for a new vehicle!
We are paying off the lawn mower we bought last May.Ours always goes towards bills.
We're paying off our Kirby and DH's stereo system he got last week for his truck. Then I estimate about another $600.00 in vet bills because my dog needs a senior workup and xrays to check for arthritis. And hopefully with the rest i'll buy some new clothes for DD and I. (Or maybe a day at the spa )
Assuming we get one, I'm getting a Bowflex Xtreme.
