Question about ground turkery
Can you basically use ground turkey in anything that requires ground beef? For any of you that have tried this, how is the taste compared to beef? We eat turkey bacon and sausage and I love it. So, I figured this would be a more heatlhy option for us. TIA
I use it in spagetti and lasagna with nobody noticing, I think anything that has spices in it you really dont notice, the texture is a little different but all in all is fine as a substitute. If you made hamburgers or meatloaf I think you would notice the difference however, not bad, just different.
We use ground turkey, I love it! Sometimes I will use ground Beef but I would say 95% of the time we use Turkey.
we use ground turkey quite often. When you eat it all the time you don't really notice it, but if you had the two right there then beef would give you the better taste. I mix the two sometimes. some turkey and a little beef for good flavor and texture.
It's a great change from beef once in a while. I like to make a package sauteed with salsa and put in a container in the fridge. This way I have filling for turkey soft tacos. Just don't cook it too long. It cooks a lot faster than beef. Ame
I have used ground turkey a few times-DH is not a fan of it though. My DH doesn't really like any kind of ground meat, though, unless it is a hamburger or an italian meatball. I have used ground turkey to stuff tacos and I barely noticed the difference in taste. Just be careful to read the label before you buy-ground turkey made from breast meat is very lean, but there is also ground turkey that is made with white and dark and is much higher in fat content (sometimes higher that lean ground beef).
We only use ground turkey. No beef of any kind. Never really heard of any turkey being higher fat content than beef. I have friends come over that never know thats in my chili, veg. soup, spag or anything. Its also cheaper so thats a plus. Not to often can you eat healthier cheaper! LOL
A dietician told me recently that lean ground beef that was browned then drained and run warm water over itwas no higher in fat content than the turkey. I have been doing that ever since she told me that and dh can't tell the difference. That among a few other things, no meds, has brought his cholesterol down.
Thanks everybody. I think I might try this. Yes, it does seem cheaper. I know Kroger has it on sale this week for $1 a pound. I'm going to stock up.
