Update on hysterectomy recovery
Hey all, it has been a pretty long time but I am finally 6 weeks post op and the dr says I am doing awsome!! I am on the highest dose of estrigen he can give me for now and will gradually decrease my dose to a very small one. The hot flashes are bad when they happen but DH and I make fun of them, as well as my "emotional moments" so I wont allow my self to be depressed by menopause. I feel much beter than I did before the surgery and that is what matters!! I am so happy I had it done, NO MORE MONTHLY VISITS!!!! Dh and I threw away all my "monthly undreware" and went and got me a WHOLE bunch of sexy stuff!! I never thought I would know what it was like to not ever be in pain again. I am just so happy. I do still have a sittle soreness around my insision sight but other than that I am good. Also DH and I are gonna be in our local paper soon. They had a thing in there for Valentines day and they want people to write in and tell their love stories. I did and they called and are goona put our story in the paper!! So any way, that is my up date. I am so glad everyone supported me through all the bad times, thank you, you all know who you are!!
glad to hear you are doing well.
Glad to hear you're feeling better!
I also am gald you are feelnig well! My recovery was really hard. The underwear thing was a good idea! Congrats on the news story!
Im am also glad you are feeling better. Yes no more period will be nice!! That is so neat that your story will be in the paper. Are you able to view that newspaper online? If so you will have to put it on here for us to see!
Glad to hear you are doing well Thats neat about the paper.
So nice to hear you are feeling so well. There is nothing like feeling like your pain will never end. Life becomes a wonderful place to be again after the pain stops. So happy for you. Please post the story when they print it! Congratulations.
I'd wondered what had happened with you. I'm so happy to hear that you are doing so well!
I'm glad you are doing so well. Congrats on the story! That is so neat!
I'm glad you are doing better. I can't wait to throw away my monthly supplies! At nearly 45, I'm almost there, but not quite yet. I'm still as regular as clockwork!
I'm 25 and have severe endometriosis. I had "clean-up" surgery in Oct. and it helped quite a bit, but the effects are already wearing off. Because of other health problems with me, I have a severe sensitivity to medications, and cannot take bc because it all makes me sick. We are looking at a hysterectomy for me, as I have my two children, and have a tubaligation, and have completed my family. It is comforting hearing such positive thoughts toward it and the recovery. I'm happy to hear you will now be pain free. And so glad you have had such a good recovery.
Glad to hear you are soaring through your recovery. Please post the article if you can when they print it.
Great to hear from you!! Welcome back and very relieved you're feeling ok. I often wondered about you! And, is it cold out there in WY? I used to live in Ft. Collins (went to CSU) and I remember WY was cold and WINDY! Stay warm!
Thanks all. I do think you can read our local paper on-line. It is called the Casper Star Tribune. I'm not sure when the story will be in there but I will let you know when I know. And Adena, seriously consider the hysterectomy. I'm not gonna lie and say that the recovery has been a piece of cake but I am 6 weeks post op and feel like a new woman. Some of the ladies on here can tell you what a hard time I had. I had to have mine abdominaly because I had a cone biopsy done of my cervix a few years ago and the Dr. hardly left any cervix to grab on to to do a vaginal hysterectomy. You may be able to have it vaginally, I heard it is easier to recouperate from. I greatly recomend it if you are in a whole lot of pain that can't be taken care of with meds. The weather in wyoming is still windy and cold but we haven't been too cold here this week, in the 50's. I'm sure that won't last long though. In wyoming we wait 5 min and the weather changes, all but the wind. Well, I have some stuff to do so I will keep ya all posted about the artical in the paper!!
I had endo and a lot of fibroids and adenomyosis and after several *female* surgeries, had a hysterectomy in 1994. I've had 2 abdominal surgeries and 2 laparoscopic surgeries. The abdominals have a longer recuperation period. RE: the hysterectomy, I've taken HRT since then since I don't have my ovaries. and I've felt great. Just because you have a hysterectomy doesn't mean you don't go through menopause at all though, so I have that to deal with. But I've always been glad I had my hysterectomy when I did.
Karen, I am definately going through menopause. I have read it is worse when your thrown into surgical menopause than going into it naturally. I tool my temp. the other day at the peak of a hot flash and my temp was 101.7!! And that wasn't even the worst one I have had. My dh and I make fun of all my menopause symptoms. It is pretty hard to have a mood swing and be in a bad mood when my DH tickles me or makes a really goofy face. I would way rather have all these symptoms (hot falshes, mood swings, mind cloudiness, ect.) than to have the pain that I had before and have to go through all that I did. I don't care about takeing hormones. I put on a patch and forget about it for a week and then change it. No pills to take or anything. I love it!!
