What do your children watch on TV?
This is a website designed for mothers to take action on what is being shown on TV. As a former teacher, it's AMAZING what the kids will talk about and what's on TV these days. Companies need to know how the public feels about the portrayal of teen sex, violence, etc. And, what they are REALLY sponsoring. If it's in your heart to speak up, then click on this: Take Action
I think most network tv is crap, reality shows, the tv dramas, the talk shows, the crime shows, even most news programs. Dh and I don't watch it and neither do the dks. The tv is just not on much, and if it is someone is usually watching a movie. I have not seen the show that this website is commenting on so I am not going to comment on the content of it. I did notice it is on at 10pm, I did not see any kind of rating for it. But most likely, if you let your kids stay up til 10pm, on a school night, to watch tv, they've seen a lot already. I think people need to wake up and look at the society they are raising their children in.
Most kids have TV's in their rooms...I find that a problem among the troubled teenagers that I've taught. They're "going to bed", but many of them stay up late (later than their parents) and watch anyway. I believe it does take a village to raise a child and that the parents need to speak up and stifle the influence that the media has. People don't realize how much "we" control the media, and we have to voice our opinions. Good or bad... off soapbox...
My oldest of 3 children is almost 21, and the only time that any of them had a TV in their rooms was when the middle child was a senior in high school. We had just moved and had an extra TV, and her room had a cable jack in it. She rarely had time to watch it, because she was so busy with school activities. Now that she's gone off to college, we will occasionally use that room/TV to watch a show that no one else wants to watch at the time.
I like the TV on for noise. We don't allow soap operas in the house, or cartoons such as spongebob, rugrats etc. My kids like to watch Dora and The Price is Right
I let Kaleigh watch PBS--at this point, she doesn't have an interest in anything else. She loves Sesame Street and Read Between the Lions. She watches Barney sometimes. We don't have cable, but at my in-laws, she'll watch shows on Disney like The Wiggles. There's so much out there that I don't want her to see. They really do need to clean it up!
