How do you cook for a family when you are on a diet?
Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): How do you cook for a family when you are on a diet?
Has anyone had any success with this dilemma? I want to start a diet and get back into some sort of shape (lol) but I know that cooking will be an issue.
I have been following a low fat/ low cholesterol diet and have lost 25 pounds!! I just make the same meals for all of us! Luckily my dd eats pretty much anything! I do think it is easier than a "plan" diet though because the choices are broader. It is really about eliminating high fat foods from your diet...good luck! I hope it works out for you! If you want any of the recipes I have been sing feel free to email me at h lg @ hotmail.com (no spaces!)

Kiki, I posted a long post on the Recipe board for you, here.
Ditto, Karen's post on the recipe board. I cook fairly healthy and everyone in the house eats it. For dinner, I really just try to cook a lean meat/chicken/fish, veggies and a carb. I have realized, that for me, eating balanced meals low in fat and cutting back on processed carbs, is the way to go. My oldest ds is not picky and will eat most of what I put on the table. My youngest, has reflux and is very picky, so I do make exceptions for him. My dh now works out of town during the week, so sometimes my dks do want something that is not the healthiest. In these situations, I always have a healthy choice or lean cuisine dinner that I can make for myself.
I just try to cook meals that fit my food plan. I make sure that my portions are with in reason. Always WW pasta now, brown rice, and more veggies. I use ff products too. I let my kids have one thing that they don't have to eat each month and anything else they have to eat. They can change it at the beginning of each month if they want. The snack and desserts in the house are either ones that I don't like or something relatively decent to for me to eat. Of course this is still has its moments as I struggle to get into the food groove again, but any increase of healthier food choices is a plus.
