Weight Watchers Dieter here

Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Weight Watchers Dieter here
By Tonya on Friday, March 18, 2005 - 08:41 am:

Well I started on January 3rd with WW and have to this date lost 12 pounds in the month of January then I was home for a month and didn't lose anymore and didn't gain any back but I am working again so I am trying to get back into the swing of the diet but I cannot do it. Help ladies.

Does anyone here take any type of diet pills that help supress appitite or any other ideas you can give me. I still have 40#'s to go by June 30th. Help ladies with some ideas.

I don't have time to do allot of exercising so the only thing I can do not is watch my food once it gets warm out I am going to start walking every night but not yet too cold here.

I wanted to do the diet pill thing too Tonya, but they really don't work. They work while you are on them, but once you get off of them, the weight, and sometimes more, gets put back on. I was going to buy Trim Spa, but I got scared. I just wanted something to help me out too. The problem with them is that there is a HUGE choking warning. Something in it swells once it is in your system, and sometimes causes people to choke. The one thing that did help me in the past when I was on it was Metabolife. I gained all the weight back though once I got off. Whatever you decide, please be careful:).

Tonya, great job on th 12lbs!!! ^5 :) I'd really be careful of diet pills. Have you asked your doctor for a recommendation on either diet or pills? It should be warming up there soon, so you can get out and walk (walking is great! I lost 20lbs in Panama walking every day). Also, I'm not trying to be negative, but I think (mho) you might want to re-evaluate your goal of 40lbs by the end of June. That's 40lbs in 15 weeks. That's really almost 3lbs a week. It is do-able, but most don't recommend more than 1-2lbs a week for long term weight loss. I really hope I'm not offending you. I just think more reasonable goals are easier to obtain. I know if I set unrealistic goals I get discouraged more. For me I like to set a long term goal, and then set smaller, short term goals to get to it. So for me, my long term goal is to lose about 20lbs. My short term goal is to get to 140 (5 more lbs). Once I get there, I'll set another short term goal of about 5lbs, etc. I don't really set time limits for these goal, but just keep reaching for them. I just told Robin (my 11yo) something I'd heard this week that applies to all of us. I don't know who said it, but it goes like this. "Reach for the moon. Even if you miss you'll still be among the stars." My final goal is the moon. Every pound I lose is a star. Sometimes stars fall, but there are lots more stars up there to reach. You can do this!!! Have you thought about a low carb diet? Even just to jump start some weight loss. That's what I did. Now I'm going to good carbs, lots of fruits and veggies and just being careful about what I put in my mouth. I also joined Curves again and am trying to get outside with the kids more. Good luck, and remember we're here. :)

Well see my goal on the 1st of the yr was 50#s in 6 months so I have to get back on track to keep my goal. I agree that now it might be a nonreachable goal but I am keeping my goal in mind since it was really a 6 month 50 pound goal instead of a 4 month 50 pound goal.

And right now I cannot talk to a Dr because I don't have health insurance so I cannot afford to go to the Dr.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Tonya, Congrats on loosing 12 lbs. That is great! You should be proud of yourself. Are you still following WW and not loosing more weight or are you having a hard time sticking with WW? If you are following it and not loosing weight anymore, have you dropped your points?? When I did it last summer, I forgot to drop my points when I lost weight. I dropped them and then started loosing again.

As far as diet pills, they won't work long term. I guess they could help if you really changed your eating habits while taking them. I have a friend that lost about 25 lbs with Trimspa. The only thing is that she started to gain it back when she reached her goal. So, now she is taking them again just to maintain. I can't see how that would be healthy for long term, not to mention expensive. Also, you just never know what you are taking since the diet pill companies are not regulated.

When the weather gets nicer, try to get in 30-40 minutes of walking each night, that should help a lot. I don't know what else to suggest. Just hang in there. 12 lbs is a wonderful start!!

I stoped losing cause I stopped counting points now I need to get myself back into being strict and counting agian and I will start losing again.

Come Monday morning I am going strictly agian by the diet and it will start working again. I am still 5 pounds away from changing my points range again but I might anyways. Just to give myself the push I need.

I just started Weight Watchers at home...2 days now. I have really been doing well (keep in mind this is just day 2 LOL). I have the points bracelet and that has really worked for me...I don't have to worry about trying to find my log and writting thing down I just keep my points calcultar handy in the kitchen and then move my ww charm over a bead for each point.

Have you tried the WW fudge bars? They are great if you have a chocolate addition as I do and they are only 1 point. Also many of the 94% fat free mircrowave popcorns are only 1 point for 4 cups of popcorn.

I've been doing WW for 3 years and love it! Whenever I get off track and can't seem to get back on I start writing down foods/points daily again. That's just helpful for me to *see* it again...also if I'm really struglling to get back on (like after Christmas or my recent birthday, I got 2 choco cakes, yikes!!) I try to wean myself :) Like I'll think of one thing I've been eating regularly that isn't so great and concentrate on cutting that out for a few days, then I'll add something else, etc. At the end of the day I'll try to motivate myself by saying 'Great, you cut out xxx food today just do that again tomorrow'.

Those are just ways I get back on when I seem to stray from the path. WAY TO GO on the 12 lbs!!! I love WW. I've never been to a meeting in my life. My mom lost 45 lbs. a few years back by attending so I had her buy me the books, counter, and other info and I just started doing it myself. I personally think it's the best weight loss/maintenance lifestyle there is.
You can do it!!!! Don't get discouraged. If you mess up tonight and eat an ice cream bar just remember there's always tomorrow to improve!!!

Well I am going back on starting this morning I am writing down my foods and Rich is going to get on me again and help with what I eat. He packs my lunch bag the night before and asks me during the day how I am doing. Night, dinner time is my worst for eating. I want to munch when everyone is in bed. Thanks ladies. I am determined I am going to lose this weight.
