Curves is coming soon and..

Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Curves is coming soon and..

I am totally in the dark about Curves. What is it all about. Is it just exercise and support or do they have their own diet to follow as well as the exercise. Curves will be here soon and I am thinking of joining. For the exercise but also to meet other women. I just don't know what to expect. Thanks guys!

I don't know a lot about Curves, but I know Cat is a member. Hopefully, she will see this and post. What I know (Cat, correct me if I am wrong) is that it is a workout program. There are several stations set up in the room. You do each station for a certain amount of time and then rotate until you have done them all. I think I remember Cat saying that they also have eating plans you can follow. I think she is on a low carb one.

Thanks, Debbie.

Curves

Check out their site. It is a workout program and they do have a diet you can follow, also. I've been a member for a year now, but haven't been able to go for the past couple months because of scheduling problems (I'm way busy and need to find time for "ME!"), so I will probably cancel my membership this month. The first few months I was loosing inches in different places (stomach, hips, chest--much to dh's dismay! lol), but wasn't loosing weight. So in August I went to their weight loss class and gave their low carb diet a try (they also have a low-cal plan). I lost 20lbs by November and have kept most of it off (gained back about 4lbs, but can loose that in less than a week if I want to). I'd like to loose about 10 more lbs, but I'm just not motivated right now. There's a lot going on and stress is running high in my house. Eventually I will get back with some sort of exercise program, even if it's just walking. Curves is also designed to motivate you and it is a great social environment. I've made several friends through Curves. They do lots of neat "games" and challenges that are fun. They also have "Curves Bucks" that you can earn and then spend on Curves merchandise, like t-shirts, gym bags, water bottles, etc. It really is a great program and I wish my schedule allowed me to get back there, but it just isn't working for me right now. Good luck with it if you join. Btw, it's not for everyone. One of my friends joined and did loose a few inches, but nothing after that. She was working out 3-4 times a week and following their diet, and still nothing. Everyone is different. Oh, and I did find I lost weight faster/easier when I only worked out 3 days a week with a rest day between each workout day (like going M-W-F or T-T-S instead of T-W-T, etc.). Let us know if you decide to join. :)

Thanks Cat I will check the website out. I know what you mean, this time for ME thing. I have been neglecting myself lately!

By Cat on Thursday, June 3, 2004 - 08:11 pm:

Well you all will be proud of me--I decided not to quit and I went tonight (between dh coming home from work and going to class--plus I got off early today). I usually don't have time on Thursdays, but I squeezed it in tonight. Now of course, I didn't get any time with dh since I left as he came in the door and he left as I got back, but the way things are right now that's probably a good thing. Hopefully I can make it at least twice a week. Three times would be good, but not likely. It was good to be back. :)

Some exercise is better than none! Gold star to you for even going. Deciding to go and following through the first time after a while can be hard.

I've just finished up work for the summer and am thinking of joining Curves here as well. I couldn't fit it in through the school year b/c by the time I got home and had supper it was ready to close. I had left the kids all day at the sitter so I didn't feel right just dropping them off and then running out again and barely seeing them before bedtime.

I need to lose 20 pounds at least. 30 would be nice but I'd be happy with 20 and some muscle showing when I walk.

I'm going to stop in on Wednesday. I finish work on Tuesday. My only problem...what about the kids? I can't take them with me, can I?

By Brandy on Sunday, June 27, 2004 - 02:30 pm:

As far as i know of Paula you can't take them with you and i think that's a shame = ( .I joined a gym where you can take the kids i just don't do it in the summer. It's just easier to stay at home.but i have went on a few walks with the boys and i just a few days ago got a real good deal on a piece of exercise equipment and i've been using it = ) .I got it at a rummage sale for $30.00 and you can set it up two ways as a eliptical type machine or a bike. It's great.I hope you find something you can do that will help you out if nothing else go for a few walks with the kids a day or so.Or one 30 minute walk watch what you eat and you will be down in no time =) good luck and you can do it.

By Cat on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:51 pm:

No, you can't take the kids. Our Curves even has a sign the says "We love kids! But this is YOUR time--Please leave the kids at home. :)" I have seen kids in there at times. We have a table up front for new member to do their paperwork and stuff like that. I've seen a mom bring in a 4 or 5yo with a coloring book (only once--I'm sure they told her not to do it again) and I've also seen older kids, like 9 or 10 doing homework there. Our Curves lets girls join when they're about 12 or so. They do tell them not to do a couple of the machines that they're not tall enough for, though. I hope if you want to join you can work something out for childcare. Good luck!
