Curves - is this working for you?
Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Curves - is this working for you?
I am going today to Curves for my second workout. So far I like the system, but I was looking for some success stories, besides on their web page. Does anyone know of success stories, has one themselves, or is happy with your weight lost/inches lost so far and would like to tell me about it? I need some extra "umph" to keep me motivated! I want to lose 50-77 pounds, be in a size 9-12. That was my weight bewteen high school up until about 10 years ago (size 12 was 10 years ago). So, I wanted to know if anyone else has this sort of goal? What diet did you use or did you use a diet on top of the work outs? Did you work out any additional days/walking, etc, besides the 3 days a week at Curves? Did you still have a regular soda, coffee or occasional piece of sweets during this time? How long did it take you to lose the weight/inches? Were you faster or slower than you anticipated? Thanks for any input! I just joined today as I am in serious need of a support group! Soon-to-be single mom with a 3-year-old here (well, technically already a single mom since I've been separated for over 1-1/2 years now, just starting divorce proceedings). thanks again! My name is Diana, for anyone who wants to know, and I'm 30 years old, living in West Virginia.
Nice to meet you Diana i haven't used curves but i'm pretty sure Cat does and maybe some other people i will bump this up to the top for you so maybe someone who does do curves will post. = )
Welcome Diana. Yes Cat does curves. If I remember correctly she has had a lot of success with it. I think she is also following a low carb diet with it. Hopefully she will see this and post to you.
Welcome, Diana. Sorry it took me so long to see this. The past two weeks have been CRAZY!!! Illnesses, dh had surgery on his shoulder last week, my mom's scheduled for surgery on Monday, kids schedules are nuts, etc. I'm sure you kwim. Anyway, Brandy and Debbie are right, I'm a member of Curves. I joined last May when one opened a mile from my house. (we're in a pretty new area and it's growing like crazy) I lost inches for the first 3-4 months, but no weight. Then in late August I started their weight loss class (once a week for six weeks). They have a book that you follow a specific diet--depending on whether you're carb or calorie sensitive (the book has a test to tell you which you are). I'm carb sensitive. I lost almost 20lbs by mid-December. I really haven't lost anything since, but I haven't gained it back either. I will tell you I did NOT follow the diet in the book. There was too much I don't like (cottage cheese, tuna fish, tomatoes, etc). I modified it and it worked for me. I do have a friend that joined about the same time I did and she ended up quiting because it wasn't working for her. I went from a size 12 to a comfortable 8 and even own a pair of jeans that are 6's (woo-hoo!). I'd still like to lose another 10lbs, but I'm really not in a huge hurry. Hopefully by summer. I'm also going to reward myself with a belly button ring when I drop that last 10lbs. I haven't been able to get to Curves for a couple weeks, but I'm going to try and get there either today or tomorrow. Three times a week is good. You don't want to go every day. It's actually best if you don't. Every other day is better. If you want to do something the other days of the week you can, but make sure it's not the same as Curves. Try walking or swimming or something. It is a great program, but just know there are some people that for some reason it doesn't work for. The low carb Curves diet is a lot like Atkins. I drink diet soda (can't give it up!). I like Diet Dr Pepper, Diet Cherry Coke and Diet Mt Dew. They taste about the same as regular to me. Remember the people at Curves are there to help you. Ask questions! I'f you're not seeing results, ask for help. They also have a video you can watch that shows exactly how to use the machines. Ask to watch it. If you don't feel a specific machine doing anything that doesn't mean you're not doing it right. There are a couple I really don't feel, but I saw results the that area so they must be working. If there's anything else you'd like to know that I can help you with, ask away. Hopefully it won't be days before I see a question again! lol Sometimes I don't have time to post, but I usually try to at least read every day. Good luck with your goals. Oh, one thing I found helpfull was to set small goals instead of one big one. Like instead of saying "I want to lose 20lbs in 3 months" say "I'd like to lose 5lbs this month." That goal is easier to reach and then you can set another one. Again, good luck and let me know how you're doing!
