Low carbs
Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Low carbs
My husband just started this and lost about 8 pounds very quick. My sister in law is doing it too. She was very heavy and is losing 3 pounds a week. (Her system is messed up though.) She looks very good now. I think she dropped about 60 pounds in 6 months. I don't know if it is healthy or not but that is what they are doing....
I forgot to say my sister was doing grey sheet on Overeatters Anonymous. Very low carbs and lots of chicken. She is 45 now and the doctor said she would be dead by 50 due to cholesterol and high blood pressure and everything do to be morbidly obese. Now she looks fine and her cholesterol is only 150. Blood pressure fine. Only thing that happened is her thyroid which was working at 20% is now working at 180% So she had to go on thyroid medicine for opposite of what she was on thyroid medicine for. Werid.
Did they cut the carbs out completely? I have always wondered if doing these certain diets are safe or not.
I'll add my two cents. IMHO cutting carbs out completely is not healthy. Besides the fact it's impossible! Most foods have carbs, some more than others. I'm high risk for developing diabetes and have to watch my carb intake. (I had gestational diabetes and have a family history.) Limiting your carb intake and watching serving portions will go a long way. I check the serving size and how many carbs one serving has. That gives me a good idea of how to limit portions. When pregnant I followed this diet - per instruction by a dietician and my OB/GYN... Breakfast - 40 grams carbs Snack - 30 grams Lunch - 60 grams Snack - 30 grams Dinner - 60 grams Snack - 30 grams One slice of bread is about 15 grams of carbs, so a sandwich with two pieces of bread is half your carb allowance right there. You have to choose your carbs wisely! LOL! High carb foods I avoid or limit strictly - sweets, soda, juice, pasta, breads Low carb - meat, cheese I follow this diet loosely, mainly to ward off diabetes but it has weight maintenance pros as well.
I think it is very low carbs. I think it was healthy for my sister in law as she was morbidly obese. Now she is close to normal weight. Obviously it was healthy for her because she was on deaths door. My husband is a big guy - almost six feet and built like a linebacker. He is doing low carbs. He really was eatting practically all carbs before the change. I don't think no carbs is a good idea unless you are like my sister in law.... I think grey sheet is very low carbs.
I started doing low carbs and I have lost weight and feel great. I cut out all processed foods and sugar. I eat most of my carbs from fruit and veggies. I do have some complex carbs like whole wheat pasta and whold wheat bread. However, I eat them before 3pm. The average person eats about 300 carbs a day. I stay under 100. I didn't want to loose a lot weight, just wanted a better way to eat. I had been feeling sluggish and I had put on about 7 lbs that I couldn't get rid of. I have now lost those and have a lot more energy. I talked with my doctor about Atkins before I started. He said not to do Atkins which allows you lots of fat and very, very low carbs. He did not like the fact that it cuts out fruit and lots of veggies. He suggested the diet I am doing now. Lean meats, chicken and fish with lots of veggies and fruit with a small amount of complex carbs and some low fat cheese. One thing to remember, this has to be a lifestyle change. If you loose weight and then go back to your old ways of eating, you will just gain the weight back. Now, that I have lost the weight that I wanted, I have one "cheat" meal on the weekends. I eat whatever I want in moderation. Good luck Feona with whatever you decide to do. I saw your post on juicing. I have heard this is very hellthy.
My mother and father both have been doing this type eating for about two years now. My father at his heaviest was aprox. 325lb he is now at the lowest he has ever been in his life 173lb, We are so proud of him he a completely diffrent person. They both seem to have so much energy now it's hard to keep up with them....
I don't think I could eat this diet. My husband had eggs with extra butter and cherries for breakfast. Not for me... I must admit though my husband has more energy than I ever seen him have. He lost a pound just yesterday. Must be his body type hates carbs. He ate thai food yesterday for lunch. - Beef Sate appetizer with no sauce. Beef and string beans too. For dinner we were running so he had a Mcdonalds One Cheese burger - no bun ONe chicken sandwich grilled - no bun Side Salad Low carb oatmeal type product from health food store. Breakfast yesterday was the same 3 eggs extra butter and and a fruit.
