Guess who has strep???
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Guess who has strep???
Yep, Randy, again. His throat started hurting Friday and he had a fever Friday. The fever has pretty much been gone since then (maybe 99) but his throat still hurt. So I took him to the doctor this morning and sure enough, the rapid strep was positive. The tech came in and told me and asked if I wanted the rest of us screened (me, Robin and two daycare kiddos). I told her, well these two aren't mine, but go ahead and do Robin! He wasn't happy with me. His was negative, though and the other kids aren't showing any signs. We do really need to watch the 3 1/2yo because he's having surgery Friday to remove some pylops. He's been on antibiotics and just finished them Saturday so he should be fine. Randy's chilling out in his room now--away from everyone else! Dh and I should be fine since we both just finished antibiotics for sinus infections. Hopefully Robin won't develop it. It's been a while since Randy had it. I guess it was time.
Poor guy. I hope he gets better soon and I hope no one else gets sick.
I hope he feels better soon. My youngest had strep a few weeks ago, and it lasted forever. Poor thing didn't eat for 4 days!
Randy hasn't eaten much the last few days, either. I'm trying to decide whether to keep him home from school one more day or not. He's already missed 12 days this year (all excused). I hate the school's attendence policy and having to decide if your kid is too sick to go or not. When I called this morning and said he wouldn't be there the secretary said, "At least he made if for CSAPs. We don't care about anything else." I know she said it jokinly, but sometimes I wonder if there's some half truth there. I guess I'll see how he is in the morning.
Cat, I hear you about attendence. My ds has missed 9 days, 5 for the flu, and 4 for strep. Those are the only 2 times he has missed, and it was withing 2 weeks of each other. The school sent me a nasty note about his attendance. So, what was I suppose to do, send him with a fever, and vomiting? He vomited for 5 days with the strep! Urg....it isn't like I didn't call them everyday, and let them know what was going on. I hope he feels better this morning.
I decided to keep him home again today. When I told the school he had strep they were more than happy not to have him. I also looked up the attendance policy and as long as they're excused we don't have a problem. If they want to make a stink about it, they can bring it on. I've fought enough with this district for Robin, a little battle about attendance doesn't scare me. Randy's feeling a little better, but says his throat still hurts and he doesn't have an appetite. Probably partly the strep, and partly the antibiotics. He felt like he was going to throw up last night but didn't. Spring break starts Friday (half day, then two weeks off). I can't wait.
Randy's doing MUCH better now. He told me this morning that he doesn't think he has strep now because his throat doesn't hurt at all. I told him that's because of the medication and he still has to finish it. No more upset stomach, either. All is back to normal (whatever that is! lol). Just wanted to update you.
Glad to here everybody is feeling better
I'm glad he's feeling better too!
I'm glad he's feeling better.
I'm glad he is better, Cat.
