My poor ds
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: My poor ds
He woke up yesterday telling me he didn't feel well, but i figured it was just a cold so we went to church anyway. Mass was about to start and ds turns to me and says "my tummy hurts" and coughs this nasty 'i'm about to puke' cough. My dh takes him and runs out of the church. They stay in the foyer part of the church all thru mass. I just figured dh didn't want to bring ds in 'just in case'. After mass ds comes up to me and says 'I only threw up once!' I can't believe dh didn't give me the 'hi sign' to say 'hay let's get out of here'! We did have donut duty (dd is making first communion and has to volunteer to do stuff at church in preparation), but we could have found someone else to stand by the donuts! He just layed on the couch all day yesterday, and you know little boys, they never just lay down unless they feel really crummy! He had a fever of 102, and stomach ache and a sore throat and he's very snotty. Thank goodness for Triaminic! He takes it and a few minutes later he is sitting up more and talking a lot more but you can tell when it's wearing off, he goes back to laying down again. I gave hims Motrin after lunch and he has been playing ever since. It's actually supposed to last up to 8 hours so hopefully he will feel pretty good all day long. I call the dr. this morning to see if i can bring him in. I thouhgt it might be strep because his throat hurts and it's red. The nurse actually recommened i wait a few days because apparently it sounds viral. She said she didn't want me to have to pay a copay today and then come back again in a few days and pay again. I thought that was actually pretty thoughtful. And i was glad because i REALLY didn't want to have to go outside today. He did throw up again last night (it was only a very little bit) and again this morning after he drank cold water (i told him not to do it) i think the water just made him throw up. I just hope noone else in the house gets it. I've been spraying lysol on everything, hopefully that helps!
Awww, hope he's feeling better soon. I think I would have left church, myself! Poor kid.
Poor thing. I always feel so bad for the kids with sick tummies. Not much worse than that!! Hope he is feeling better soon!!
Thanks he still was not feeling well today. Sore throat, fever, stomach ache etc. So i took him to the doctor. While in the exam room waiting, i noticed that he had a blotchy sort of rash on his chest. It ends up he has Scarlet fever. Poor guy. At least he didn't have to get a throat culture, one look at the rash and throat and the doc knew what he had. At least now we will have antibiotics and he will start feeling better in no time!
Poor guy! Hope he feels better soon!
My DS had that in December. It wasn't fun...but the antibiotics really helped. He had a relapse a few days after he finished his anitbiotics so keep an eye on him after he's finished with them. I hope he's feeling better soon!
now my dd woke up with a fever and stomach ache....here we go again!
Hugs to all three of you! I hope everyone is feeling better very soon. I'll be sending healthy vibes your way.
Oh no. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. I took Emily to the doctor yesterday and he thought she had a viral bronchitis. If she isn't better tomorrow, I need to call, and they will give us antibiotics.
Patti, I hope you are all feeling better, soon. I hope Emily will be okay, too, Dawn.
ugh poor dd is now throwing up. She has only had about 2 small spoonfuls of applesauce today and that's it. Then hours later she threw up. I got her to nibble on a cracker. She barely even nibbled it, sipped a little bit of gatorade and then threw that up Her fever is 102.3 good news is that i called the dr office and told them what ds had and that he was just there yesterday. They said i don't even have to bring dd in, they just called the pharmacy for me. Dh will pick up her prescription on the way home from work. It looks like these kids won't be going to school at all this week. Well, maybe ds will on Friday but we will see how he feels.I just feel so bad when they have such a high temp. Now I know how my mom felt when I had a temp of 104 in 8th grade....now i know why she kept coming in to check on me and why she looked so sad and worried!
btw, my mom went out and bought my kids a movie (Ice Age the Meltdown) and broght more Motrin, applesauce and some ice cream for their throats....of course they won't be eating it till their tummies are better. ds told her that she was the best Grandma in the world because she does the CLAW (think of the movie Liar Liar) and because she brings them stuff. and the other grandma is the best because she makes the best pasta! (italian grandma ) i thought that was so cute. and very nice of my mom too!
You are lucky that your mom lives close enough to do that for you! Since I moved away from home, my mom has always been several hours away. That was really nice of her!
How are your dks feeling, Patti? I hope they are doing better. How sweet of your mom to come over to cheer them up last week.:-)
Thanks for asking Nicki! They are both pretty much back to normal. I think my dd's throat still hurts a tad, and they both told me that their tummy's were still a bit upset yesterday. But they are back to school and back to playing and arguing as usual. yes, we are very lucky to have my mom so close by. She lives only about 5 minutes away.
