Hair Barrette Storage
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Hair Barrette Storage
Natalie has a million LITTLE barrettes and pony tail holders. It's getting to the point where I need to sort them so I can find them more easily in the mornings. Any suggestions on a little storage box of some kind? I think a plastic shoe holder would be too big. They are all very small. TIA
A bead storage box found at JoAnn's, Michaels, AC Moore, etc. It can be a variety of sizes, and they just have small compartments in them. Actually, any of those craft stores would have some sort of storage box that would work for you.
I used to place all small things into different baggies and place into bathroom drawer. Or you can use a kitchen utensil separater for the drawer. The last thing I neded was another box.
My best friend is a hairstylist, and has a really cool wooden hinged rack that she stores and displays all of her DD's hair doodads on. I don't know where she got it, because I've never seen anything like it before. Her DD keeps it on her dresser where it is easy to see and reach. I wonder if someone made it for her? I'll ask. You could hang ribbons against the wall and clip barrettes to it. My DD keeps her barrettes/clips, etc. in a large children's jewelry box that has different drawers.
I use several bead storage boxes and I'm anal enough that each box has different "pretties" stored in it and each compartment holds a different color. A few rubbermaid containers hold Bella's big bows, etc. that I don't want crushed.
I'm that anal also Tink! I want to sort my colors, as well as type. I'll look at the bead boxes at Hobby Lobby this week. Thank you everyone!
You could also get one of those divided plastic containers at the dollar store. The dividers are usually moveable, so you could make them different sizes according to what the items are. They have lids, which would help to prevent spillage.
You can also look in the tackle box (for fishing) stuff at stores like WalMart etc. I used to use a medium size tackle box for dd's stuff like that when she was small. Nice because you can pull the whole thing out and open it and see everything all at once, but there are small sections to divide it all into. Even kept the brush and comb and spray bottle in the bottom of it!
I have a ribbon that I clip Isabella's hairclips to. The rest of the stuff, like ponytail holders and bows, i throw in a plastic shoe box. The fact that they are all thrown in a box and not organized is driving me crazy!
I tried keeping hair stuff, in a box, but no one ever put it back, so it just didn't work! As it is, I know when I clean, I'm always finding pony-tail holders!
My dd has all hers in a "cadoodle", found it at walmart years ago, like a tackle box. However she is horrible about putting stuff away. I wonder if one of those plastic jewelry cases hung on a door somewhere might be a good option..let me surf to see if I can find what I mean!
like this..search under cosmetics bags
I got a GREAT organizer box at Hobby Lobby today for $1. I love it! I got all organized this afternoon and I'm breathing a sigh of relief. Unorganization really bugs me. Thanks for the tips ladies!
I keep all my DD's ribbons and bows and such in a hat box. For the most used stuff, I just keep in a ziplock bag in the bathroom drawer. Hope you find something!
I use a Caboodle. Pony holders in the bottom and barrettes in the top. We have had one for years.
My daughter has a cute little doll face that hangs on the wall. The doll has LONG yarn braids for hair. You clip your barrettes on the braids. So easy to use and see what you want. When DD was little, it was easy for her to point to the bow clip she wanted to wear that day. It held about 20 bow barrettes. I loved it.
I would never be able to keep up with keeping them super organized like in a tackle box. You might try getting one of those pretty photo storage boxes at Wal Mart or any craft store. You might think it a bit too large but when you go digging around, you won't have to pick up half the bows and ponytail holders that fall out from you digging around and put it all back when you're done.
