OUCH! That poor kid. I never used one of those. I'm glad now.

By Brandy on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 12:58 pm:

ouchie i'm glad my boys never got cut on it..i'm sorry to hear there are so many that have = (

By Cat on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 02:38 pm:

That's so horrible! We never used one of those, but I have a friend that has one similar for her 3yo. I'll have to send her the link. I'll also make sure if any daycare parents bring something like that it is safe. Thanx for the heads up.

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 04:58 pm:

OMGOSH! We have TWO of those! THANK YOU!! One is unopened. Do you think Toys R Us will take back the one that's opened?

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 09:14 pm:

I'm not sure they would take back the one that's opened, Heidi.

We did use one of those kinds of potty seats. Luckily nothing like that happened to my ds. That poor poor little boy! OUCH!
I bet he's going to be afraid to sit on the potty after that.

By Jjb on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 11:03 pm:

Oh my!!! My DS uses the same seat all the time. Thank you so much for alerting us.

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, December 14, 2006 - 07:09 am:

Maybe I could just put tape over the seal part.

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, December 14, 2006 - 07:19 am:

I actually bought one of these when DS was little, but we didn't use it because it didn't fit our weird shaped toilets. I gave it to Eve a few years ago, and just sent her this link.

Heidi, personally, I wouldn't want to take the chance. A new potty seat doesn't cost much and is definitely worth the safety of a child.

On the topic, we used a toilet seat insert made by Baby Bjorn and loved it. I wonder if they still make it. ??

Would one of you ladies describe the hazard? On my modem connection it is a problem to view the video.

By Trina~moderator on Friday, December 15, 2006 - 07:00 am:

Ginny, it's a news story about a toilet seat insert used during potty training made by Ginsey industries. Apparently there is a sharp plastic seam that has injured several children around the country. One little boy required surgery to repair a deep cut at the base of his penis. They are cushioned vinyl seats with pictures of popular children's characters on them. I don't remember all the details, but I believe law suits are pending and the situation is under investigation.

Example:
Ginsey

I've never seen one of those specific seats, but I totally know exactly what kind of *sharp seam* or edge they are talking about, having seen and felt it on other vinyl covered, cushioned products. I cannot imagine that happening to my child.

Heidi, don't take the chance. Get rid of it.

By Andi on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 12:05 am:

We have a potty seat like that except ours is plain white. I looked at and felt the seam after watching that news story and I think ours is fine. Thank Goodness. That is so scary!!! Thank you for posting about it...who would have thought?
