Play Doh Ideas?
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Play Doh Ideas?
I finally broke out the play doh that Matthew received a year ago as a gift, he loved it. He cut and rolled and used cookie cutters to cut out shapes. We made bacon, eggs, sausage, meatballs, helicopters, trains, happy cake with candles, french fries with ketchup etc. Any other ideas or suggestions as to what we can do with play doh? TIA
Roll and coil snakes. Make letters, numbers, etc. and spell his name. Let him be creative! It's fun just to squeeze playdoh and feel it in your fingers. LOL!
Ditto Trina. I get lots of cookie cutters at Walmart for 50 cenets each. Right now, we're into making balls for different people in the family, as well as a big pool, a baby pool, and a slide. (In honor of our swimming days this summer.) She loves using her cookie cutters. She also loves to just SQUEEZE! She also has an old spoon, fork, and a plastic knife in her playdough bucket. She likes to get creative with those.
We have a little table that we got at Walmart for like $25.00 that has little pads, crayons, plastic scissors & a lot of little cutters in it. It stores all the gadgets & the kids love it.
Making pizzas are always fun because you make the crust and the sauce and then make different toppings for it! Hamburgers and hotdogs are really fun for the same reasons. Make different toppings, and buns, and make different foods and play "store". There are also some very good playsets to use with play-doh. My kids loved the barber sets where you squeezed the play-doh through the small holes in the head, and then could cut it with plastic scissors!
My dd likes to press different objects in the play-doh and see the different impressions. I bring her things like beaded necklaces, coins, buttons, small plastic animals, and basically anything that would leave a design. We are using her alphabet blocks lately, as they have raised letters. As the others have suggested, making food items is a great idea. One day we pretended she owned a bakery. I found some paper doilies and she made several different cookies and candies. We placed them on a separate table and she proceeded to sell them to dh. She had more fun. Fortunately it was a nice day so she did this on her small plastic table on our front porch. Easy clean up for me, and I didn't stress about play-doh on the floor or carpet.
I found a set of play dough alphabet cutters at a garage sale last weekend. I don't know if they still make these??
Thanks Everyone! I actually enjoyed making food, it was fun for me as well. Matthew kept coming up with the ideas and I made things for him. He loves Humpty Dumpty so I made him as well. The Play Doh website actually has some good ideas as well, I just haven't had time to sit and go through it all. Deanna, alphabet cutters are a great idea! I think Michaels sells a plastic or I saw them at the dollar store, I'll have to go back and look.
