Trina, Carseat Weight/Age ?

I didn't want to horne in on your conversation with Crystal.

But I was reading and you told her that usually it is recommended for a child to be harnessed for up to 4 yrs old and 40 lbs.

My question is that my son is 2.5 years old he is 48 lbs. and I have removed him form his car seat. His godmother bought him a envenflo booster with the re moveable back, well it doesn't have any built in restraints. What I mean is that you just sit in on the car seat and you use the car's lap/shoulder belt and snap across the child.

I currently don't have a vehicle so I haven't used it except for once or twice , but I honestly don't care for it, it isn't anything to me except for a high chair for the car. It's just sitting there, It moves around in the car.

At his age and size is there a booster hat you can recommend I am looking for something that will either attach to the car's seat belts and also have a chest/crotch or a 3 point harness on the booster it self to restrain him.

You are correct to be concerned. At 2.5 your DS is too young for a belt positioning booster seat. Most kids less than 4 yrs. tend to wiggle and pull the shoulder belt put of position, which would be very dangerous in the event of a crash. Since your DS is 48 lbs. you'll need to get a car seat that has a higher harnessed weight limit. (Most traditional car seats harness up to 40 lbs.) Options listed here:
CPSafety.com - Over 40

Another option not listed at the link above is the Fisher Price Safe Voyage. It's new on the market, and is a convertible car seat that harnesses up to 55 lbs..

Is your DS tall for his age?

This one might be a good option. It harnesses up to 65 lbs. and then transitions to a booster. It's reasonably priced and will work well in your situation. My only concern is that if your DS is tall or long torsoed he may have outgrown it already. It requires a seating position with a headrest or high seat back. Worth looking into.

Sorry Trina,
I was looking at the first link and reading about the different car seats.

I like the Travel Vest a lot , especially since the fact that we don't have our own car right now we often ride with friends and it would do convient not to have to lug a car seat in and out of a car each time I went some where.

I forgot to mention that , Justin is 37-38 inches tall. he is big for his age, most people think that he is 4 or 5 already but he will be just 3 in late december.

I was also looking at the different car seats there also, because after we move in Jan. I do plan on getting another vehicle and I would like to have a stationary car seat that would stay in the car all the time. but until then I think that I will look in to the Travel Vest.

Thank you so much for the info.
