When did your kids stop taking naps?
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: When did your kids stop taking naps?
In reference to my post about Natalie not wanting to go to bed, it got me thinking. She sleeps 10-11hrs. at night and 2 hrs. generally during the day. I can't imagine her giving up that nap yet, but who knows. When did your kids give up naps altogether? I never realized that it was possible this early. (She just turned 2.)
My daughter was younger then my son. He had to at 3 because he went to a program for his speech problems. I want to say she was around 2.5. My dh finally got fed up with trying to put her to bed at night. I worked second and she just fought it. It worked out fine for us. My mom said my sister and i both stopped napping around 2 for the same reasons.
My oldest took naps until she was 4yo and still slept 11 hours at night. She's 9 now and sleeps 10-11 hours still. My ds stopped around 3 1/2. He started therapy at 3 and still had a nap break in the afternoon for an hour and a half for the first six months. My youngest dd took a nap until she was almost 4yo and gave them up because she started preschool. Everyone I've talked to say that my kids are very good sleepers so they may not be the norm.
Tink-Natalie has always been a very good sleeper, too, so I'm reluctant to think she doesn't need them. I'm interested to know about everyone's experiences though!
Katie was around 2-21/2yr when she dropped her last nap.Once her night time sleep was affected thats when she lost her nap.We did the quiet time instead of napping, she just couldn't get through the day without it.Lying on the couch with books or a video seemed to give her a second wind to make her last until bedtime.
They're all different. DS napped until age 4. DD gave them up at 2, despite how much I encouraged them! LOL!
My oldest quit napping at a year. She was in daycare and the lady said she had never seen anything like her! My middle kid gave up naps at a little over 2. My youngest napped until he was 4, and then we he started full day kinder he started taking an afterschool nap again.
Timmy's four and still naps. Daycare will continue with it for another month and then transition him out of them in prep for Kindergarten.
LOL, I have no idea. Mommy brain at it's finest. ;) I would guess all three stopped around the age of three. But that would definitely be a guess.
MY 5 year old will still take a nap, but it will be later like 4pm and if she doesn't then she goes to bed earlier. My 2 and 3 year old start getting tired around 3 sometimes 2pm. Whenever it is it is too soon to stop naps. I need them!!!
Timmy was 4 and only stopped because of pre-school. Jade is 2 and still naps and will as long as my grandma can make her she for sure needs them. Life would be evil for the world if she didn't nap. And she goes to bed every night between 8-9pm and sleeps until 7am. So 10-11 hrs at night plus at least a 2.5hr nap usually closer to 3.5hrs.
Sarah stopped needing and taking naps, when she was about 2 years, 8 months. It was about the time, that Emily was born. I was sooo tired and really would have liked both girls to sleep, but alas, that didn't happen. Sarah would stay in her room, but she wasn't sleeping and she was being naughty, poofing the powder all over her room on one occasion and another occasion, pulling all the diapers out of a fairly new bag. I gave up on her napping, then. I think Emily might have been about the same age, but I can't remember as well, with her. Once in a while, either one of them, would spontaneously fall asleep, wherever they happened to be, but most of the time, they were good to go.
Ds stopped at around 4 to 4 1/2. I loved nap time!
I love it, too. Thinking about Natalie not taking naps, whenever that may be, is SCARY for my mental health!
