Sleep question????

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Sleep question????
By Brooke327 on Monday, July 10, 2006 - 08:13 am:

Like I said before my baby is 3 months old. He will not sleep in his bassinet. He sleep in his car seat in the bassinet. As soon as we lay him in the bassinet he wakes up shortly after and will not go back to sleep. If we return him to the car seat he goes to sleep and sleeps most of the night. I don't know if its because he is flat on his back, and not at an angle like he is in the car seat. We really want him to sleep in his bassinet, he is getting too big to be in that car seat. What should I do ? Any suggestions? And if he won't sleep in the bassinet how in the world am i gonna get him in his crib???

If the crib is already up try him in that and see what happens. Jade would never sleep in a bassinet and she loved to sleep in her crib. We put her in it on day 4 that we were home from the hospital. It seemed like she loved having more space around her.

Good luck!!

At this age, I would also just start the crib. Within a matter of a few weeks/months, your going to have to make the switch anyway, why do it twice! We used the crib from the first night home from the hospital, never even used or had a bassinet. One good trick I used was to put a heating pad under the sheets in the crib and get it nice and warm. Turn it off when you put the baby in. It makes the transition from going from your warm arms to a cold bed easier!!

We also used the crib at this age.Do you think it could be reflux? My niece had reflux and wouldn't lay flat either.

One of my friends had a baby who never did sleep in her crib. They had an old queen-size mattress and always laid her in the middle of that. She would wake up and cry, every time they tried to lay her in the crib, so eventually, they just gave up. The mattress and box spring were directly on the floor, so not that high up.

I don't know if it is reflux? What are the symptoms?

By Tripletmom on Monday, July 10, 2006 - 09:48 am:

With my niece she seemed bothered lying down flat.My sister had to wait at least 1/2 hour after feeding to lay her down. Its when the food they eat comes back up and makes them uncomfortable.I think she also started her on rice cereal earlier and that helped alot. You can try putting a pillow underneath the crib mattress to help elevate it to see if that corrects it also.My neice didn't need to be on any reflux meds b/c the above mentioned helped her.

Thank you! The pillow under the mattress what a good idea. What would I do without moms board LOL

Ditto Vicki. They also have those slant pads for babies, but Natalie always slid down on those by morning.

Brooke,How's you're little guy doing?

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 06:38 am:

We used the swing and then the crib with the slant pad. Connor was the same way. Maybe it's the warmth too. You could heat the crib with a heating pad before you put him in there. Does he like to be swaddled? At that age, Connor still needed to be swaddled. Check for boogers too... :-)

Sherri,

My little guy is doing good 2 nights in the crib. He has slept good except for his teething. He has been up a coupal times a night, I think he is just uncomfortable(from teething). But he was waking in the cars seat too, due to his teeth.I did elevate the crib with your pillow idea and he seems to be doing fine. He must like his crib cause he would not lay in that bassinet for nothing.LOL Thanks for asking.

I hope you get the teething figured out too!! Have you tried gripe water?Sometimes kids get sour tummys from all the saliva they swallow,it helps for teething/gas.You can buy it alcohol free also.Good Luck ((HUGS))
