Uh Oh, more potty trouble
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Uh Oh, more potty trouble
I am asking this question for my sister. Her dd is 2 1/2 and potty training. She has pooped on the potty a couple times, but after she goes she starts crying and asks to put her diaper on. But she doesn't just whine, she gets Really upset and needs to be calmed down. My sister doesn't know why she is crying but she cuddles her and calms her down and tells her that she did a great job when she pooped in the potty. She even has her 4 yr old ds come and tell his sister that he is proud of her. Now she refuses to sit on the potty. This little girl also has a twin sister who goes on the potty just fine and does not get upset at all about it. Any suggestions?
Did something scare her one time on the potty? Does she have pain when she uses the potty? My oldest wouldn't use the potty for bowel movements because she has a supersensitive gag reflex and she would get sick if she smelled the bowel movement. I know it's funny now but it was not that way 7 1/2 years ago. I hope it gets better.
No, not that we know of. She doesn't cry while she is going, she cries when she stands up and looks into the potty and sees it there. It's like she maybe thinks she did something wrong. Perhaps she thinks that her BM should go into the diaper? My sister has made some Potty sticker charts for her. She loves stickers, so maybe this will be a good incentive. I also told her that when my ds was potty training, i would give him a M&M or two everytime he went on the potty. So she may try that too.
When kids are young, though, don't they look at BMs as an extension of themselves? So, they feel like a part of them, is being flushed down the toilet. Could that be her problem? Info (fixed link)
really? I never heard of that.
I have a nephew that thought like Dawn has said an extension of themselves or belonging to them. He was not poopoo potty trained until almost 4 1/2 yrs old (he's 19 now). He would throw fits after going and insisted that it was his poop and he didn't want to flush it or throw it away. It was kind of sad actually because you knew he didn't fully understand. We laugh about it now!!!
