Skin reaction to new lotion

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Skin reaction to new lotion
By Reds9298 on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 07:43 pm:

I got the Arbonne baby lotion and oil for Natalie's "bumps" because I heard so many great things. We used the lotion lastnight after her bath and today she has little welts that keep popping up in random places on her body (all where lotion was rubbed).
Needless to say, I'm sending it back, but should I just let it go (bath again tomorrow night) or should I give her Benadryl?
TIA:)

If you notice anymore welts, I'd give a dose of benedryl. One dose is probably all it will take, and it won't hurt anything. Or if you notice that she acts uncomfortable at all, I'd give it to her.

I just saw this post, or I'd have posted a reply sooner. Sorry!

I have a lot of experience with allergic reactions and benedryl with the kids and myself! LOL!

For future reference, I keep the clear benedryl gel that you rub on, and use it for welts that pop up in case you are ever unsure if you actually need a dose of the regular stuff. But they say not to do both at one time. Though I have been instructed to for really bad reactions...

I didn't even know about the rub-on kind. Thanks a lot Adena! I will pick some up tomorrow. Sounds like it would be good to have on hand. I noticed as the day went on, she got more and more welts. They don't seem to bother her at all, but are getting noticeable.
Thank you!!

((((Mommy and Natalie) I hope you figure it out.

No problem! The benedryl gel is great for any itchies! The kids use a dab for mosquito bites, poison ivy, unexplained rashes or hives, or basically any itchy spots, and it usually takes care of it right away. We can't live without it!

We like the gel much better than the cream because it dries really fast, and doesn't leave a residue. Plus, it spreads better than the cream. And it just seems to work better.

With my nervous system disorder, I have some sort of contact dermatitis and I break out in hives for no reason on my feet, legs, and especially my hands. I keep the gel with me at all times. I even have some in the car. When I start breaking out, I use it, and the hives go away without having to take a med orally (which I am unable to take too often due to other meds I am on). I couldn't live without it!

Hope your baby girl feels better soon! Glad that she's not itching from the hives, but they sure are scary to us moms!

How is Natalie doing today. Is her skin cleared up overnight? I hope you figure it out.

I'm sorry to hear about Natalie's reaction. I'm one of the Arbonne ravers, you will not have a problem getting a refund, they stand behind their products. She MUST have very very sensitive skin, poor baby. Have you taken her to a dermatologist about the bumps yet? Could be that goofy maluskum contagiosum(sp) that was around the board a few months ago. My DS had that also as a toddler and it just happened to go away after a few months.

The kids and I all have sensitive skin. We have to be very careful about what we use. DS and DD have both had eczema in the past and have broken out with hives from different sunblocks and moisturizers. Since switching over to all perfume and dye free soaps and detergents - no more eczema! Yeah! We've had good results with Cetaphil and Eucerin, both recommended by our Pediatrician, Allergist and Dermatologist.

Hmmmmm, she hasn't had a reaction to anything else we've used though. I never imagined a reaction from it. I thought maybe it wouldn't work but didn't think of a reaction. We normally use Eucerin which definitely helps with the bumps, but doesn't get rid of them. That's what we'll stick with. She had eczema as an infant, but seems to have outgrown that. We also have always used Cheer Free detergent (my DH has VERY sensitive skin).
We will ask at her 2yr. appt. for any other recommendations. They definitely aren't terrible bumps. Often it's more that you can feel them and only see them when you are pretty close to her skin.
