Twin, Full, or does it matter?
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Twin, Full, or does it matter?
Debating on whether to go with a twin or full for Natalie's big girl bed. Here's the reason: Her crib converts into a full bed (a beautiful one), although we will be putting her bed PROBABLY on the floor for a little while anyway. That's the reason we're thinking of getting a full instead of a twin. Any reasons why a full ISN'T a good idea? I'm pretty sure that it will fit in her room fine, as far as space goes. Is there something I'm not thinking of?
My youngest has a full size bed and we have no problems. It has plenty of room for her and her "friends" that she sleeps with every night - friendly tiger and caramel the cat.
Both my kids have full size beds. Unless space is an issue, there shouldn't be any problems.
The only knock against a full is floor space in their room. My dd went to a toddler bed, then a twin, she was a horrible sleeper got up several times a night and we inheirited a full. We put it in her room and it changed her into a good sleeper. I think she just needed more room to move around.
I would go with the full. We lay and read before bed and the full is so much easier, not all squished into a twin, even the whole family fits when necessary. And like Colette lots of room for the friends!!! When mine were little, I put them closer to the wall and piled the friends on the floor side so they wouldn't fall out.
We went with twin beds, so there would be more floor space. With Emily, we only went with a toddler bed, because when she went to a bed, the bedroom was small. If we had been in a bigger house, we probably would have gotten a twin-size right away, like we did for Sarah.
I'd go with a full.Way more room.We only have a twin b/c of room space. Its nice for reading and sleepovers.
One thing to think about is bedding. The full is more expensive, AND sometimes it's hard to find childish patterns in that size. I have seen a fair share of kid sets that come in twin and full (usually expensive brands), but there are also plenty of cute sets that ONLY come in twin size. You might want to look around and see if you find some bedding you really like, and see if it comes in full, too. Full just might limit you in your decorating scheme with the bedding size issue. Also, I think floor space is more important than bed size, (meaning I'd rather choose a twin and have more floor space) and if you don't think you'll stay in your house for a long time, you'll need to consider that someday whatever you choose might be the 'wrong' size for the new bedroom.
Unless floor space is a concern, I'd go with a full. My kids started out with twin beds and constantly asked for bigger beds. Plus, as was mentioned, they are great for sleepovers. They both eventually got full size beds.
Ditto those in favor of a full. Many children's bedding sets come in a full size now and are usually only $10-20 more. The only drawback is the matter of floor space for playing but if there is a playroom or if Natalie does most of her playing in a family room, it really isn't much of a consideration.
I asked my kids today and they are still happy with their twin beds!
Dawnk...I slept in a twin until I left home, too! I never even thought about it really, and as I recall, all of my friends had twins, too. Her room is pretty large, she plays about half and half between her room and the family room, and we *think* a full will be fine in there, but we're going to measure and check it out. Thanks for the advice everyone.
We have a full size in dd's room and have had since she came out of her crib. We got these Fisher Price sides that go on it. They lift up and down and cover about 3/4 of the bed leaving about 2 feet at the foot of the bed for her to get out of the bed without letting the sides down. It has been great for her friends that have stayed over. And it is comfortable for me to lie in bed with her at night and read and talk or be with her when she's sick. It has been hard to find character sheets in full size. But we bought yellow ones and purple ones and snowflake flannel ones. We found character comforter and pillows at Sears and JC Penney online. We did a google search and found several sites that were very reasonably priced. I want to think we paid $30 plus shipping.
