Six year old soiling pants

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Six year old soiling pants
By Paulas on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 10:55 pm:

My son, who is 6.5, soils his pants on a regular basis. It's not a full out bowel movement but more than streaks from not wiping. What I think might be happening is that he thinks it will be a "toot" but turns in to something more.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this something I should take him to the GP about? Suggestions on how to stop??

I think it's just from not wiping well. I would buy him some Cottonelle wipes and see if he can clean himself better with those. One of my kids uses them.

I think that is fairly common in little boys. A number of people I have known have had that same complaint. Very often, they don't want to stop playing and then they *almost* have accidents in their pants. I can't tell you how many times over the years I've seen a group of them playing in the house or yard, and one starts squirming, then suddenly makes a run for the bathroom. And like Annie said, a lot could be from not wiping well. I got into the habit of leaving a large container of baby wipes in each bathroom, and just told all of the kids to use that after a BM if they needed to.

My son is the same age and has the same problem. I think his is mostly from holding it at school because he doesn't like to do anything more than pee at school. I wouldn't worry much about it.

I seem to notice this more from boys than girls. My daughter never had this problem.

Sounds more like constipation to me. DD suffered w/ what I called "skid marks". It was the moist bowels that would pass beyond the constipated clogg. The child has no control on when and how that escapes. I gave her an enima and was shocked to see how much blockage was going on.

Ask your dr about it. If it is it can have more long lasting results if it goes untreated.
