Ok what are we doing wrong? Matthew will be 2 on the weekend and his vocablary goes like this: Horse - yeee haaaww Cat - meow Dog - lots of barking Old MacDonald - Eiei O Clock - tick-tock Duck - quack, quack Santa - hohoho You get the idea. He does use the correct words for things like: Orange is oranges Banana is nana Yellow is well it's a version of the word yellow, it get anyway. Hat is hat He can say eye, nose, mouth, hand etc. He's also starting to put words together like "Daddy where are you?" Is the first stuff typical? I guess he'll work it out eventually? I try to use the correct word when he says "yee haaaw" I say "Yes, that's a horse". Any thoughts?
He's fine. Just keep doing what you're doing and use the real word. When he says "Look! Meow." Just respond with, "Yes I see the cat."
Thanks, Pam I was hoping you'd see this post!
I've got a huge caseload of 2 y/o's who only make vowel sounds. I'd be super excited if they called a cat anything!! A "gaga" a "boosah"--I'd take anything--LOL
He's making up language and experimenting with naming things. Sit back and enjoy because this is the only time in his life he'll have th freedom and licence to be so creative in that respect! Well, unless he's the next Lewis Carroll.
Sarah called owls Wowls, for a while and tar, tookie, for car and cookie. Emily called oranges orange-apples for a while, too. It was kind of fun and they both grew out of it soon enough.
He is doing way better than Kaylee. Kaylee still only says a few words. If she doesn't start talking after 2 I am going to put her in some kind of head start program.
