Boys watch with alarm?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Boys watch with alarm?
By Momofmax on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 - 08:35 am:

Can anyone recommend a boys watch that has an alarm on it? I'm trying to find one for my son to use as a bathroom reminder. He holds it in for so long that when he laughs or something like that he leaks! This has been going on for so long and I feel like I've tried everything - punishment, rewards for staying clean and dry, talking with his doctor, etc. His doctor told me that when he went into kindergarten the kids would tease him and that would take care of it. Nope. They didn't notice most of the time or care when they did. His friends in the neighborhood don't care either. It's not a flood - just a big spot on the front of his pants. He's six and a half and could care less. This only happens when he's playing with his friends. Dh and I have talked until we're blue about being clean, growing up, etc. I've gone through phases of reminding him often but I'm not always with him at friends' homes. So a watch with an alarm is my next, and hopefully last effort. He can tell time well but he'll need to be able to reset the alarm for the next hour.

Any cheap watch with an alarm should do the trick, jsut go to Walmart or wherever, and look around. If he's anything like my son, he'll lose it at some point, so I wouldn't invest too heavily in one! As far as him going to the bathroom, he will eventually grow out of it. He will get to the point that he WILL care. It's frustrating when we can't *make* them care about things we think they should care about! You can try the alarm, but I would try not to stress about it...that really is something that he needs to take responsibility for when he cares enough to do so. Good luck! :)

My DD would get to involved into playing and would pee. Everytime she peed and had friends over she would have to stop and have a bath.We tried everything and her having to stop and have a bath was not fun, Suddenly it worked it took about 3 baths before she thought about it and playing with friends was better than her having a bath.Good Luck

Instead of a watch, you might want to look at getting a parking timer. I got one for my 8th birthday that my parents would set to tell me when to come home from the park. Mine was a LOT easier to set than a watch and I could set it myself.

My son's watch has a timer, but it aso beeps on the hour. So he doesn't have to set the alarm, but it beeps every hour on the hour. It was just an expensive watch from target.

Wow, I would love to find the watch that beeps on the hour! I'm going to keep looking. I am also going to try to get less stressed about it and just make him clean up when I notice it. I've never heard of a parking timer but I'm going to check that out too. Thanks everyone!

Timex makes an Ironman sports watch that beeps every hour. They are fairly inexpensive and you can get them at Target, Walmart or any sporting goods store.
