TTC- in your mid-30's - how long did it take you?
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: TTC- in your mid-30's - how long did it take you?
Hi ladies - Just trying to get a sense of what is "normal" when trying to conceive in your mid-30's. I know that the books say up to one year is normal - seems like a long time. For those of you with no major fertility issues, how long did it take you to conceive? We've just been trying for a couple months - but no luck yet. I'll be 35 in May. :0) Thanks for your feedback and support!
I think it is 6 months when you are over 35. A year if you are under 35.
First time I was 36 and it took a couple of days. It was kind of a bummer because we were having fun trying. I had been off the pill for about a year before we started trying. Second time I was 37 and it took 4 months.
First time, I was 29 and it took 4 months. Second time, at 32, I told DH it was time, we did it and I got pregnant! So, not quite mid-thirties, though, but close.
Thanks ladies - keep em' coming! :-)
First time 30, it took 2 months. Second time 32, it took 5 months.
First time at 29, one try, but I miscarried. Second time at 29, one try, happy baby girl! I was off the pill for about 3 mths. before trying...had been on them for about 8yrs. straight before that. My sister conceived both of her boys in 1-2mths and she was 32 and 35.
My OB/Gyn told me it takes the average couple 12-18 mos. to conceive. It took almost 2 yrs. to conceive DS. He was born when I was 32, 2 mos. before I turned 33. DD was a different story. She came to be from ONE night of passionate, unprotected love making. We weren't officially TTC but were seriously thinking of starting soon. Since it took so long to conceive DS we figured it would for baby #2 as well. Wow, were we ever wrong! LOL!
With DD, 2 months and with DS only 1 month. I get pregnant at the drop of a hat, but I have a hard time staying pregnant. I know a lot of my friends have said it took them well over 6 months. HTH
I guess I'm not average. I got pregnant first try with Jeff and Jen was a surprise. I had a hard time carrying the pregnancies to full term though. I was 28 and 29 when I had my babies. My sister had her only child at 35, and had no trouble conceiving either. I think it's entirely an individual thing, coupled with the age you are when you conceive.

I had my first 5 days before my 30th birthday. We werent trying, it was one night of no birthcontrol. 4 years later we decided to try for #2 and we got pregnant the first month, I had her one month before I turned 35. With pregnancy number 3, we weren trying, but I got pregnant and miscarried. We tried 4 months in a row, and got pregnant again(pregnancy 4), only to miscarry,I got pregnant 2 months later I think, I miscarried that one as well. After seeing a specialist she gave us the AOK to try again, and got pregnant the first time, and miscarried(yes 4 miscarriages). I had a dnc and was told to wait 2 months to ttc(I was 39 at the time). We did not wait, and I got pregnant 3 1/2 weeks after my dnc. That pregnancy lasted and my beautiful baby Faith is 18 months old. SHe was born 11 days before my 40 birthday. I do not think I am the norm, as I have always gotten pregnant very easily even in my 30's.
With both of my kids I got pregnant after away. 1st at 32 took one try. 2nd at 36 took 3 tries. However, as mentioned above, it normally takes alot longer. For most of friends over 30, it took over 4 months.
Hmm, first one TTC at 32 took 6 months after being on the pill for 10+ years. Second one happened on the first try at 34 years and my latest happened on the first try (which wasn't even a real try, more an oops because I thought I was way past ovulation time)at 39 years old. I also only have one ovary (bad cyst when I was 18 years old). So, I guess I kind of defy the standard odds since I should have reduced fertility with just one ovary and my first child took the longest to conceive. Good luck!
My doctor said to not get any anxiety about it for at least a year. I was pregnant 3 months and 27 days after my last birth control pill. That was with my dd at age 38. My best baby wishes are with you.
It took me almost a year to get prego with my DD Then I found a website the babycentre and I used the ovulation calculator and it took 2 mths to get prego unfortunatley I had a missed misscarriage and had to have a D/C and 2 mths later we got prego again and voila we had triplets Yes a HUGE surprise.I was 30 when I had my DD and 37 with the boys.Try the ovulation calculator I firmly believe thats what helped us
I'm younger but i'll add mine too: With Kaitlyn it took 2 weeks at age 20. With Nathan I got pregnant 15 months after getting off the pill. We went back and forth as to whether we were really TTC or not but we never protected anything so I consider it 15 months of TTC at age 23.
