Surgery went well
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Surgery went well
Robin had his surgery yesterday (Tympanoplasty--repair hole in eardrum). He went in around 11:45 and the doc came out at 1:30 to let me know it went well. The nurse didn't come out until almost 2 (the anithesiologist came out at 1:40 to tell me Robin was still asleep) to say he was starting to wake up. They ended up having to give him some meds for pain and nausea and he went back to sleep for a while. We finally left the hospital at 4pm (after he threw up twice). He threw up in the car on the way home twice (I had big ziplock bags in the car, just in case) and then once at home last night. He's doing really well this morning, though. Much better than last time. We do have an rx for tylenol 3 (as needed) and augmenten. He goes back next Thursday to have the gauze taken out of his ear canal. I need to call the doc today and ask when to take this HUGE plastic thing off his ear! He told me to change the cotton ball but not mess with the gauze that's packed in the ear, but he put a couple 4x4s over his ear and then this thing that looks like the plastic piece of a protective cup and then a velcro strap around his head to keep it in place. I don't know if that's supposed to stay on until next week or not. Robin hates it. I know it will protect the ear from getting bumped and it will also protect the stitches (behind his ear--they had to get a patch from somewhere). Robin says his ear itches and it's uncomfortable. He did sleep on the couch up here last night (outside our room) and I was up with his at 3 to give him pain meds. So we're just vegging out today and tomorrow (pretty much--I took three days off so he could relax--I still have lots to do around the house, though!). So yesterday was a very long day (left the house at 6:45am and didn't get home until 5:15pm) and we're all glad it's over. This surgery has a 85+% rate of success so I hope and pray it works. We have to wait until it's completely healed to see.
OMGoodness bless your hearts! Sounds like it was a long day indeed. Glad he is feeling a bit better this morning!! Keep us posted.
Wow Cat, I can't imagine having to go through all that. I get weak in the knees just having to deal with a bad cold. It's so hard to see your little ones suffer. I will say a little prayer for you and Robin today. The rate of success is very high so think positive and hang in there.
I'm so glad it all seems to be going well (besides the vomiting. NO FUN!). Let us know how he's feeling as time goes on. Something tells me you're going to have a very bored little man when the meds all wear off. Of course, there is always video games, tv and comic books!
((((Robin))))) Poor guy, that just sounds miserable!
He's doing okay right now. He did throw up again this morning and we now have an rx for it if we need it (they called one in). He ate lunch and seems to be doing okay. Hopefully he won't throw it up! He asked me earlier if any of my friends at Momsview asked about him. lol He's no prefering to leave the plastic cup on his ear. He wants it there to protect it. Whatever. If he's feeling up to it he gets to go with me tomorrow to pick up Mr. Bean.
{{{Robin and Cat}}} Glad he is doing better today. Tell him, "yes, we are thinking of him" LOL, he is just too cute! I sure hope the surgery works this time. Is this one different from the last surgery he had done?
Poor thing. My ds gets sick (and so do I)everytime from the anesthesia. I'm glad you have something for it now. Hopefully it's working it's way out of his system so he will stop feeling the effects from it totally. Let him know we are thinking of him and wanting to know how he's doing. Lots of hugs to both of you!
Thanks for letting us know how he is doing. I'll keep both of you in my prayers. Feel better, Robin!
Cat, I hope Robing feels better realllly soon. Poor guy!
I hope he feels better soon. Surgery is no fun. I hope this works for his ear, too.
Tell him to get better soon = ) of course we are thinking about him he's one of our nephews lol = )
