Has anyone given Atarax to their toddler?

After our Zyrtec experience, I am so gun shy about giving any medication to my kids. Helen has yet another sinus infection. Rynatan, Benadryl and Zyrtec have not helped. The doc prescribed Atarax. I have not been able to find out much info about it when given to a toddler. The generic name is Hydroxyzine. It's been around as long as Benadryl and is in the same class, but I've never heard of it. Any experience? I trust my doc, but I'd like to hear from you guys, too. Thanks, Ame
I'm pretty positive that's what I took to stop an allergic reaction I was having to penicillin.
Kayla has taken this and she had a severe reaction. PLEASE know that not all children do this. It made her crazy-hyper-raging-mad. We knew it might be an issue. I think she took it for allergy to penicillin also. You would be able to tell the very first dose, rest assured. I am sure there are moms out there that have had good experiences.
Thanks, Kim. We gave it to Helen last night and she had a similar reaction - though not to the degree you describe. She was just sleepless! Of course, it is supposed to be a sedative - I'd been looking forward to a good night's sleep. It also did nothing to dry her up. So - no more Atarax. Luckily it was no where near as expensive as the Zyrtec. Ame
