has anyones baby gotten a cyst omg took my 22 month old to the dr for a cyst on his butt that dr mashed it i thought i would die nothing came out.. he put him on 3 antibiotics and wants to see him in a week i didnt think it was that serious but the dr did i dont want to go back for him to mash it again. he said theres a strain of infection thats not responding to meds.out . what would you do???
My dad had a cyst that my mom helped come to a head with warm packs. I would see if the doctor thought that would be okay to try.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "dr mashed it". Do you mean he opened it with pressure so that he could expel some of the contents? I'll bet the baby cried, because I've been there and it does hurt. Cysts run in my family, and I have had some get infected, at which point the doctor drains it and puts me on antibiotics. I've had others just sit there for years and never give me a problem, and if they aren't on my face or in a place where they get irritated by my clothes or activities, I ignore them. I would definitely go back to the doctor, and find out what kind of cyst it is. I would hope if the doctor expelled some of the contents he sent them out to the lab for checking. If it is infected, you do want the doctor to keep an eye on it until it clears up.
If it needs to be expelled, the doc should be able to use local anethsesia and lance the cyct. Squeezing it can spread the infection. ((((Hugs)))
update he did squeeze it again ( as my heart broke ) he said to take antibotic for 7 more days and then if it is still there he will lance it...
Oh poor baby! I hope he feels better.
Did he say if it was a pilonidal cyst? I had never heard of one until this December, when my 14 year old DD was diagnosed in the ER...the surgeon who removed it in January said she most likely had been born with it, and that a recent fall she took caused the area to become inflamed and then subsequently infected. Check out www.pilonidal.org - I found it very informative! Hope your little one is feeling better soon
