My little one

DS is four and he is in preschool now. Everything is going well for him in school, overall. There are a couple of kids that are a bit mean to him, so we are dealing with that. Anyway, that's not the problem. The problem is that this child of mine will not dress in warm clothes. It has been cold lately, raining even. This child will go out in shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals with no socks! He will argue with me that he is hot, not cold. He says his sweats make him too hot. I always take one of his sweaters with me in case he changes his mind. At night, he sleeps in shorts, no blankets, and he even turns his fan on! I turn it off when I check on him. I don't know which tactics to use to get him to dress weather appropriate. Any suggestions?
I wish I knew what to tell you. My now 16yo son swears he can regulate his body temperature. O-KAY! lol All I can say is he'll dress warmer if he gets cold. Maybe he does run a little hotter than the rest of us. Some kids are like that. If you turn it into a battle, though he may dress in shorts and a t-shirt when it's really cold outside just to spite you. I'd say make suggestions and leave it. Think to yourself, is this really a battle I want to pick? Good luck. Some kids are tough nuts to crack. I know mine is! lol
Enchens, As you know we live NORTH!!!!and my youngest could go without a jackat in below zero weather. So many of the kids here dress with less than I used to wear in a warmer city. They don't seem harmed by it so I've become more casual and realize it doesn't seem to increase illness. Probably not helpful but thought it might help to hear a different view. Linda
I held him in church on Sunday and he was sweating within a minute. I think he's his own little heat generator who could probably power a few cities! lol I've cut back on layering so much clothing on him. I just make sure I have extra warm clothes just in case.
Thats exactly what I say about my little guy. Its hard to believe I gave birth to such a little heat generator. He sweats in winter. I had to get over feeling like I was doing something wrong letting him dress in less but he really is OK. He does get cold when he's coming down with something or over tired.
We live near the ocean: cooler in summer and warmer in winter and a lot of the kids are surfers. It's odd to see them in shorts and Uggs from April through November, but that's kind of their uniform out here and I learned early to trust children to put something on if they're cold.
We've been able to work things out. He can wear shorts and a t-shirt as long as we can see the sun. He must wear some sort of pant if it's raining otherwise, shorts are fine. He must take a zip sweater to school and he can choose to wear it or take it off as needed. He can wear sandals, with or without socks, only if it's appropriate-ie. not to school, church, special functions, or rainy days. If he follows those rules, I say nothing. I still keep warm clothing around just in case....
