Any other tomboys out there?

DD (7.5) recently announced she is a tomboy. Although this is not a term we have used, her announcement was no surprise because she's not into dresses, princesses or fancy froo froo, girly stuff. Don't get me wrong, she likes pink and purple but not lace, frills, glitter, etc.. Her usual attire is comfy jeans or flared leggings with simple tops and sneakers. She loves to play soccer and often plays with her brother's toys. She has baby dolls and likes to play with them but is not into Barbies. She hates Bratz dolls. LOL! She's a social butterfly and has lots of friends, but tends to gravitate more toward boys. Oh my, what do I have to look forward to?! We were cuddling and she said, "I love you, my beautiful mother, but you're not TOO beautiful." I replied, "Well, I know I'm no beauty queen, but what is 'too beautiful'?!" She said, "A woman who is 'too beautiful' must have perfect makeup, hair, nails and jewelry and is always looking in the mirror. That's NOT you, Mom. You worry about the important stuff." Wow! She blew me away with that comment, and I'm not sure where it came from, but I like her thinking.
Wow, what a great kid! I'd like to think that is what my kids think about me!
I was definitely a tomboy. I can remember my mom saying, quite plaintively, "can't you wear anything besides bluejeans?" This was when one had to wear dresses/skirts to school, but the moment I got home and all weekends I was in jeans. I climbed trees, learned how to play mumbletepeg, whittled with my pocket knife, and generally played with the boys because what the girls played was boring. And, what a great compliment. Your daughter surely has a handle on what is the important stuff - and look what a great model she has to follow.
Trina, I would so happy if my daughter said that to me someday! I think my ds is leaning towards being a tomboy, although like you, we have never used that term. For Christmas, many well meaning relatives showered her with Little Princess gifts, but when her cousin opened his wonderful, big dump truck, she forgot about her gifts and followed him around hoping for a turn to play with it! Our neighbor girl who is ten said one day that Lara is not a "girly girl". I had to ask her what that meant! She said it's a good thing. She said Lara likes all kinds of things, even bugs. A girly girl would run and scream, and she said that is annoying, lol.
I love your dd. I was a tomboy to the nth degree. Hated dresses and skirts. Followed my daddy and older brother every where and anything. My mama wanted a girly girl but got me. I on the other hand have a total girly girl who wanted her nails painted at 2. She is turning me into the girly girl mama wanted.
I'm not a tomboy, but I'm not into polished nails or perfect hair! Ugh. Just not my thing. Emily was a girly-girl, when she was about 4-5, but she isn't now.
My oldest is a bit of a tomboy, in that she likes sports and hasn't ever been into dolls or caring about her hair. She doesn't like ribbons and lace and her favorite colors are red and blue. She still has a very feminine personality, though, and likes to dress up occasionally for holidays. And definitely NO BUGS! My youngest, on the other hand, is the perfect example of a girly girl and loves everything you'd expect one to love. I guess I got the best of both worlds.
Gotta love her honesty, Trina! Sounds like the perfect little girl, to me! LOL Jen was never into lace/frills/dresses, but she DID always like perfume/makeup/nails. Wasn't into sports, but did like dancing, wasn't into tea parties, but had no qualms about playing with bugs!!!
My dd 4 is somewhat of a tomboy. Her fav color is red, she likes her clothers plain, she definately prefers pants, she will not wear barrettes or anything in her hair. she will play with barbies but will play super hero with them, and she loves the x-box along with her brother and dad. She won't play with boys much however, she definately prefers her girl friends. I think she is a perfect mix of both. She told me one time she played princess at her friends house but she did not wear that dress! She has been spiderman the last two halloweens. What a girl. Your dd sounds like she is learning what it means to be a nice person inside and out.
Awwww, what a sweetie!! You should be very proud!! Peyton is more of a princess tom boy. LOL. She loves to dress like a princess and baby her dolls, but get her out with a soccer ball or baseball, and she is one tough cookie! Bugs and such of course don't bother her with two big brothers in the house. LOL.
I am not sure what you would call me... In one sense I love being outside, sports, animals, LOVE wearing blue jeans and a ball cap, tennis shoes or comfy boots... On the other hand, I do like to get my nails done before special events, have my hair done every 3 mos, I dont mind dressing up if I have too (but try to avoid it as long as I can), dont care for snakes or spiders... Your dd sounds pretty cool to me!
I think your dd sounds great! My dd is a mix of tomboy and girlie girl LOL! It's interesting. She loves pink and girly clothes, but she trashes them by climbing trees and playing with bugs and being a "boy". I'm the tomboy! I love camping and fishing and hiking and motorcycles and fast cars and all of that. I'm not scared of bugs or snakes that sort of stuff. My boyfriend does say though that I have a girly side. I like dresses because they're comfortable, but really I'm a jeans and tank top kind of girl. I like more "hippy" like clothes. To see me during the week you'd think I was professional business woman since that's what my job requires. Anyway off to clean! lol did I even stay on topic?
Your dd sounds great! I was sooooo a tomboy growing up, and now I'm so prissy. Funny how things change!
