Summer Cub Scout DayCamp - we did it !!!!!
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Summer Cub Scout DayCamp - we did it !!!!!
Well as another mom and I said in unison at the end of this week, Friday evening - " another successful cubs scout camp completed". We go to Camp Wakpomonee in Historic Fort Ann in the Adirondacks. The kids work hard all year to be able to go as does our Pack leader, a dad of 8. General Patton had nothing on the organizers of this all volunteer camp. Our son was in one of 8 dens that were manned by men and women who take off from work for a week to make this camp possible. There were also girl and boy scouts who also gave a week of their time - in fact there were more scout volunteers than adults. The theme was Cubs in Space. So there were science stations building rockets from scratch - no kits here. Crystals, solar systems even alien space ships - what fun. All the boys loved it, so did the Dads. Swimming, archery, skits, songs, sports, scout skills such as fire building, making a stretcher in the wilderness, even making your own first aid kit for kids as young as 5 was a part of this week in the woods. The day started at 7:30 with different parent volunteer drivers and den assistants every day and ended every day after 6 with the final drop off. One little boy said "we thought all this space and science stuff was going to be boring but its GREAT" !!!!!!! This my son's last year as a Webelos. This March he will cross over to Boy Scouts. We're sad but grateful. Special shout out of thanks to Cub Scout Camp volunteers everywhere. Anyone else do Cub Scout camp this summer?
That sounds fabulous. Did you volunteer too? Judy loves the boy scouts.
Every parent has to give at least one day. It makes for quite a workout for kids and parents.
It was tiring?
Actually it was fun but we slept well at night. Great to meet other parents working together outside of the normal school and neighborhood or town activities. Also meeting new kids but in a very safe venue.
